Holley Inj. Question
Just wondering what Injection set-up you guys would recommend. I Have a TPI, and was thinking of either using the Holley Stealthram and the Holley Commander computer, or the complete Holley Commander 950 MPI set-up. Which do you think would be better? I run a 700R4, 2300-2500 stall(new converter), currently using original 3.27 in BW 9-bolt. The car is driven mostly around town, and blasts down the strip often enough. It is currently my only car though, so it does see highway use. Any thoughts?
thanks,
justin
I hope this is the right board to put this under...

Since you already have the TPI setup, you could do as I did & purchase the Stealth Ram manifold, fuel rails & the Commander ECU alone, figure roughly $500 for the manifold & $800 for the ECU & harness.

thanks for the reply. I was thinking that because then I could do it in steps.. Not having to drop a chunk of money all at once. What do you think of the set-up? What mods do you have? I was trying to look at your web page, but its coming up URL NOT FOUND...blah blah blah. - Whats the car run?

Sorry, my ISP's web page server is down right down. On 9/28 the car ran 13.1 @ 105 with several tuning issues. I have since added 30lb SVO injectors (had Delco 22lbers), replaced the pulsator in the fuel tank (was bleeding off fuel pressure) & will be putting stiffer valve springs in to cure some valve float this weekend. Hope to hit 12.5 or better. I do like the way you tune the 950 setup, it's very easy. You can do it on the fly & datalog your runs as well.

thanks again - What internals are you running in your engine? I was wondering what all is done to your engine? Is it stock or do you have a camshaft, etc?

wow!:hail: - I'm impressed. 13.1 w/ bad tunning and stock short block. Sounds like the Stealthram and the 950 ECU make a good set up w/ a 700R4. Any tire spin w/ 3.89 gears? Sounds a little steep to me, what size tire are you running? I would really like to know what it runs now. Possibly some dyno #'s? - thanks for all the feed back

Anyone else with this combo or something close? How about Brad? You have the sticky with all the Stealthram info, any input? - The thing is that I just finished my new motor, and unfortunately I am going to be running a carb at the moment. I have know choice until I can put together and injection package to feed it. It's a mild 355, pushing 425 HP at the crank. I also intend on flirting w/ a N.O.S. Sniper kit. I don't want all the torque of a LTR car, I want some high end too. I'm running 9.75:1 compression w/ a fully ported and polished set of GM 993's. Cam doesn't matter becasue I plan on changing it to suit the injection. - thanks for ANY help.
p.s. I like carbs, but being this is my only car at the moment, I need to get what I can out of my gas tank.

1.8 60's seem a little off to me. I pulled 1.72 with a 3.27 rear end in an LTR car on Kumho's. (25-2800 Dayco converter, wicked 700R4). I was spinning doing that. Are you sure that gear's not a little steep? Mike Crews 383 LTR car is doing 1.61's on BFG DR's, with a 3.27. I know a 383 and/or any LTR car has more torque than the HSR, but that should make it easier for them to spin. Thats why I'm kinda debating the 3.70 or the 3.45. I've got a 9-bolt, so either is expensive, but eveyone says "keep it, it's pratically unbreakable." - anyhow, thanks again for the help.

I think I'm going to get the HSR. That way I can do it in steps so that my wallet has time to recoperate. What do you think? First get the HSR, fuel rails(w/ AFPR), and the cam I want. Run that and hopefully cheat a stock chip and injectors for a little while since I do have a MAF computer. Next, get injectors and a custom chip. Finally, get the Commander ECM set-up(computer and harness). - what do you think?

Do you guys think the stock injectors will hold up to a 425 Hp 355? At least for a little while 'till I can afford some SVO's. I want to run the Stealthram(w/ AFPR), but I need to do all this in steps. I just spent a chunk on the motor and misc. for it, and my budget is limited. I would like to get the fuel injection back on itASAP.

To Shagwell - just FYI, but TPIS made 437 HP at the crank with a mini-ram and with stock 22 lb delco's! They had the fuel pressure set to 50 lbs. Funny, they also used my cam in that motor (I found that out 3 weeks after I bought my cam), made me feel good! The stealth ram is a decent choice, but if you want to make the most power, go with a LT-1 conversion intake (to save money), or get the mini-ram, then get a custom prom burned until you have the dough to go F.A.S.T. DFI. If your injectors are good, use them until you get the DFI, that way you could buy 30 lb.'ers and make way more power when tuned right in the DFI and you'll still get pretty decent mileage! You'll make the most power that way. The reason I built what I did, was I wanted to to build a LTR TPI motor that would compete against the mini-ram cars. Cool thing is, it will and nobody would expect it from a Naturally aspirated Long tube runner motor!

Thanks for the info Mike. It's good to know that I can "cheat" this thing a little. Like I said, i want to get back to injection, but peice by peice if I can. I think I may runn your cam too. - The Mini-ram makes more HP, but the HSR seems to make a little more low-end torque #'s. - thanks -

I forgot to add that I'm going to run my Crane roller with the HSR.
The motor is my 9.75:1 355. It is a fresh .030 over 2-bolt main 350, out of a 93 pick-up. The heads are GM 993's milled, with TONS of port work. They will flow all this motor needs. I'm running a GM cast-crank, Wheeler rods, Dynagear/Badger flattop hypereutectics(9.8:1 on 68cc), Speed-Pro moly rings, Clevite bearings through out, ARP head bolts, windage tray, Cloyes double roller timing set, Elgin, hydrualic cam(224/234 @ .050, 465/488 w/ 1.5 rockers, 112 LC) Crane 1.6 roller rockers, ARP rocker arm studs, Comp Cams guide plates, Comp hardened 1 piece pushrods, Wieand Stealth single plane w/ divider plate, Holley 750 vac. Secondary, MSD 6A, MSD Soft Touch rev-limit, and Edelbrock fuel pump. It's making around 425 hp, and 400 ft#'s. - In about a month I'm going to install my Crane hydrualic roller (224/230, 486/502, 112 LC). I figure w/ the 1.6's on top of it, it should make for a good cam. - I have a 3" exhaust system w/ a Flowmaster 80 series. I'm running Flowtech headers. I know the headers aren't all too good, but I figured they help me regain some of the single plains' lost torque. I will one day put LT's on the car, but the Flowtech's will work for now. Besides, they were $85 brand new through my work, and I needed to finish this motor and get the old one out. - sorry this is so long, just thought I'd give everyone an idea of my specs. -
thanks,

Hey shagwell, did you ever install the commander? if so how do you like it? I just started looking at the same thing and am debating changing over to it.
