Since there are reported problems with the LT1 Intake swap.....

Lets hear who has had problems with the LT1 Intake swap and what those problems were.

Lets also hear who has had success with the swap.

Post your LT1 intake combos so we know what works and what doesnt.

Ok I know people have had problems.

I have only seen 2 people who have had good results with data to prove it like track times (the guy this week and John himself). Who else has a functional LT1 intake and how do you like it?

I have it and I love it. So far it is only functional on the GTA. So far I have gotten a 8.67 at 85 mph in the 1/8 mile not very good but I have to do more tuning to the chip, and get 3.73. In my setup at around 3000 rpms or so it really pulls hard but untill next spring when i get it back out that will have to do.

I would really like to know all the details too from people that have problems. I can probably solve most of the small issues.

So if you got an intake from me or converted your own please chime in with any problems that you ran accross and especially if it prevented you from completeing the swap.

Withough a gasket, my LT1 intake did not fully cover the coolant ports on my Pro Topline "Iron Lightning" heads, there is a hair-line crack viewable. The coolant ports appear to be in the same location as the L98 heads (eyed it up with a gasket). I would suspect with gaskets, the intake would be raised just a tad and it would barely cover the ports. The intake gasket fully covers the coolant ports, but may (or may not) be sufficient. I had to have some machine work done to my motor, so the shop is going to TIG weld about 1/8" in the intake to better cover the ports.

Anyway, in short, the LT1 intake does not cover the coolant ports as well as the TPI intake.

OK, self conversion here. John's page helped me out tremendously about 10 months ago when I did it. Although I did a few things differently. The highest praise I owe to him. I have no leaks or issues to report about.

I saw an increase in power of 50 HP. I measured this using a gtech performance meter. It indicated many many times over that my mph was up. Here is the kicker. I had NO OTHER CHANGES. I mean, same chip, timing, gears, everything. Imagine what 3.73s and some tuning would do.

The only think that I could not complete was my NOS wet plate and serpentine belt setup. The TB mount is too far forward and pushes the plate into the serp. tensioner mount more than I was comfortable with. Solution? Buy an NX shark nozzle. These are supposed to be more efficient anyway. But I believe someone did use the wet plate and the LT1.

I have seen at least 2 cars already use the LT1 into the 12s with mild combos. One a 12.4 and one a 12.9. PM me for links. So the potential is obvious.

Oh yeah and IMO spend 3 bucks to get the Weiand remote tstat housing polished!

well..... ill let ya know how she runs, but so far the only problem i have had was the fact that the coolant ports in the front dont match with a gasket, or heads (easily fixed) other than that i have had no probs, but of course the intake just got finished and it is not on the car yet

I would like to hear if anyone has put it on some AFR 190 heads yet, since thats what im using.

I'm having a problem with a vacuum leak. Swapped gaskets once, used propane to find leaks, none. Ran rtv around head and intake and each port. I think the machine shop screwed something up with the milling of my AFR 190's. I'm not getting full sealing with the intake. BLM's are 160 at idle, and vacuum is 8" and steady. Dynoed 345 rwhp and ran 8.10 @ 86 at 1/8 mile track before it closed. Key to knowing I had a big problem was after I added all the way up to 30% fuel in the pe vs. rpm table in my chip. I burned them in the staging lanes and burned 6 chips, everytime adding fuel, and recording the runs. Each time the O2's went from 800 to 600 to 400 to double digits. I know the O2's aren't 100% accurate, but I've used them to tune before.

I should be making another 50 rwhp with my combo. 383, 10:1 comp, ported AFR 190's, comp 230-236 .604-.608 114 lsa cam, slp 1 3/4 headers, 36 lb injectors, 58 mm TB, single 3" all the way back, pro-built tranny with yank st3500 and 3.73 gears.

My intake and heads are matched to a fel-pro 1206.

When I get some more time, I will pull the heads and have them checked at the machine shop after I do a compression and leakdown test. I have about 2000 miles on the new motor.

I'm using the LT4 intake. Everything is the same as the LT1 except for the raised intake ports. To match the higher ports, I went with the Fast Burn heads which have the Vortec style raised ports. They matched up almost perfectly. I had to do minor porting to the top of the LT4 intake ports. I did this using a FelPro 1255 gasket. The rest of the swap was just like the LT1. The only problem I had was an oil leak at the distributor but it was fixed when I bought an angled spacer from John Millican. I'm extremely happy with the outcome of this setup although sometimes I wish I had gone with a bigger cam. The motor starts to scream at 3000 rpm and pulls all the way to 6500 rpm. I still need to do some more tuning and install the 3.73 gears before I'm completely satisfied. As soon as I get this done, I'm taking it to the dyno for some real numbers. Then it's off to the track when it opens back up.

By the way, I have had my intake on the motor for 11 months now. I've put close to 3000 miles on it.

Very happy with my swap ~500 miles ago. I'm about to order a 3200 Vigilante to really make it work. I'd also like to get to a dyno to find out exactly what the curves look like. When I first put it on I started out shifting at 6000, and after experimenting with the G-tech saw big improvements shifting at 6500. I'm scared to go any higher, but I almost think there's abother 1 mph left there.
