L98 Upgrades

I will be buying an L98 soon to drop in my V6 bird. I would like to buy it soon, and take my time rebuilding it before the swap. My question is this: What combo of things could i do while i have it on the stand to make it say a mid to high 13 sec car. Or even quicker maybe. This will be may daily driver, so nothing to radical. Money is not a big issue, i would be able to spend about 1500 on go -fast goodies. Any suggestions?

Thanks for all your help, i am looking foward to browsing this board more when my car is done.

What is the rest of the car. Manual or Automatic, what size are the gears, do you have suspension on the car. Where do you want to power range to be in? Which intake system are you going to use, what about heads.

Most people are going to say heads and cam. Those will be the big bang, but you will need to match the intake to the heads and the cam.

Are you going to be tested for emmissions? If so do you need it legal?

yes that above matters but i'm gonna tell u if u have anything for a gear in the back, like 3.23's even or something, then heads, cam, headers will EASILY put u in the high to mid 13's, i wouldn't just worry about the motor though, i would take about 1250 for the motor and put the other 250 in suspension, i know it's not much but it's a start.

I figure cam 150 at most
Heads 650 can get u a set
and headers 350

another route that might get u there would be
cam
headers
shift kit
TC

this will be cheaper but not as good results, but the shift kit is quite helpful if u have an auto

that's only 1150 which gives u 100 bucks for pipe on the exhaust, and maybe even a little more for suspension.

just my 2 cents.

i dont even think u need 1500 to put in the motor to get to high 13's but maybe

Maroon just asked many relevant questions, and suggestions will be much more accurate if you could answer a few.

Of course heads and a cam is obvious as those will change the whole characteristic of the engines power delivery, but aside from those you need to decide/answer some of Maroons questions before anyone can begin to help you form a budget combo.

Okay, they car will be an automatic. I am still searching around for the suspension upgrades i will need. I am open to any suggestions. I am also interested in a disc rear end. So what size gear should i go with. Would it be horrible if i kept my v6 rear? I appreciate all your help.

Do you want to hit 13's with the stock suspension and rear with the 350? I am not sure how the V6 suspension is on the take off, but you will need to learn how to take off with an auto and stock suspension. I would say some LCA and LCA relocator brackets.

Don't forget the free mods, feed air to the 350, and to get the exhaust out. After that get some suspenison and see what times you get. Sometimes you get a good engine, and that could make it in there. You could also tell when it dies out and start a new fund for heads, cam, and intake. The you will be on your way.

Do you have the TPI engine control system with comptuer and wiring harness? Or do you just have the engine?

I think you'd thank yourself many times over if you bought the painless.
