what is the culprit????

when i start my car it runs for like two seconds then dies. then it starts and runs like it is supposed to. it idles real rough ( 70% of the time) and sometimes bucks in 1st gear, and i can get on it and it clears up but the idle still messes up. all this started to happen after my cat went out and was replaced by a straight pipe. any suggestions are appreciated. thanks

have u done a tune up? do u have any compression readings or vaccumm readings or fuel pressure readings to help us diagnose this problem? u said it idles rough 70% of the time. does it still idle rough once its warmed up?

full msd tune up with about 1200 miles on it. fp was 39 the last time i checked and i dont have any comp. readings but the motor only has 22k miles on it. one of my buddies mentioned an iac motor, but i dont know. it still messes up when warm to. i have a thermomaster chip and a 176/166 fan switch so it doesnt get real warm. does the chip compensate for the low running temps as in closed loop? thanks

That almost sounds like it could be a throttle position sensor or the Idle air control valve... does the check engine light come on?

Yeah I know somebody who had similar problems with his firebird... it turned out that the IAC valve had gone bad.... My suggestion would be to try that out and see what happens with it... good luck.

I too ran into a problem SIMILAR to this .......

I had ONE bad injector ..... no ses light ...... put it on a snapon diagnostic box of somesort ( when I could keep it running )

juts my two cents ........ I know this isn't related to you doing the exaust work ......... but it was wierd how this showed up for me ....right after I did the timeing chain. ( I thought the chain was on wrong )
