Cams Cams Cams

I really need to know some things about cams.... ok I would not usually ask this question but cause the search deal is down I cant look it up but here are my questions

1) What is the stock style cam that a 86 305 TPI has (Roller, Soild etc.)??
2) What are the stock cam specs??
3) With a basiclly stock 305 with heavy porting to the plenum what is a good cam size?? I'm looking for a very aggresive sound with a fair street ability
4) What's the difference in 1.5 rocker and a 1.6?? help lift cam Higher or something?
5) Will any style of cam (roller, soild etc.) be more benifical than another??
6) What makes a soild cam a soild and a roller cam a roller.....??

Upon the purchace of the best cam for my setup I will order new push rods, springs & rocker arms. Also keep in mind that Minnesota doesnt have emissions so I dont know if that helps cam selection or not....if I have forgotten something please let me know...

J

um, i would tell u to search but i understand, when u need info, u need info
ur cam is hyraulic roller, the specs im not sure about but as i understand, even tho u have a 305, u have the same cam as a 350 which isnt as bad as my cam or even close. if ur looking to upgrade with everything stock, look in to the lt1 production cam whcih will be a step up...or u can check out the lt4 cam (not the hot cam) which will have a lot of ***** in 305 but once u get some headers and intake mods, ull be able to appreciate the difference a lot more...(but the lt4 will be fine stock). ur car has 1.5 rockers and if u get 1.6's u will be able to get higher lift which is what u want...you will have to get a roller cam and they are better anyways...alos, u can always give comp cams or crane cams a call and tell them what u need and theyll recommend and help u out, they will be a lot more expensive and it might be uneccessary with cheaper cams that will do the same job...u ve got a lot of questions and i got mine answered by asking a lot of stupid questions and reading a lot...i have like every tpi/camaro tech book but i highly recommened this one, its got a lot of cam and valvetrain info etc too..."how to tune and modify chevrolet tpi engines" by jason scott in MBI publications (motorbooks powertech series. well check it out....hopefully ive helped somewhat, have fun
oh, check out www.gmgoodwrench.com and the performance parts/camshafts to see production cams such as lt4...and ebay for great deals (im the highest bidder at 2 dollars on an used lt1 cam just for the hell of it

the 1985 motors had some pretty stong cams.

if you look on iroczone.com in specs they will tell you the cam specs in every motor for all the years of irocs
