MSD GM Blaster Coil, having problems installing

I just got all my stuff in from Summit for tune-up. Anyways im getting ready to install the MSD coil. I get around and take out the stock coil, which was held down by 2 bolts on a bracket. Well opening the MSD coil, i see they give me two thin pieces of metal, that are about 3 inches long, and on the ends it kinda goes up 1/4 inch then back out 1/4 inch. I im gonna get pics.

And it has a hole all the way left on the metal bracket, and a hole on all the way right where it sticks out.

Well i cant figure out how the hell to put those on the MSD coil, and get them to screw in the stock bracket.

Im i missing something here? I need to show u guys pics i think, but this MSD coil should work, its GM 85-96 cars, so WTF!

Please help, i'll get pics tomorrow.

i replaced my coil couple weeks ago with a stock replacement... and it came with those same pieces... they were on the stocker too but were just sticking straight up... so i trashed them and put the new coil on w/o using those things... works fine... i have no clue what those things are for... but its not causing any problems... anybody know what they are supposed to be for?

So is your coil kinda just "there", without mounting to anything, or u figured some other means of mounting them. Cause if i could of used my stock brackets everything would be fine, but those brackets are held by rivets on my stock coil.

Should i leave the coil in there, and kinda put it between all the wires? Those wires are pretty tight, and if can shove the coil in there, i dont think its going anywhere.

What do u think?

mine mounted in my stock brackets... i took the bolts out and yanked the damn thing out of the stock bracket... then put the new one in and put the bolts back in it...

yea you have to use your stock mounting brackets. the fact that they're held on by rivets is not a problem heres what you do. crab a chisel and a hammer. chisel those little ends of the rivets that protrude from the stock coil and take a screwdriver and just push the rivets out. then just use the bolts that are supplied to attach the stock brackets to the msd coil, thats how i did it. you could also take the rivets out with a dremel and a cutting disc and just chop those ends off. that should take care of the problem

Hey thanks guys! So chivel and hammer, ok i'll give it a try. I dont know why MSD just didnt ship with that bracket, rather than those useless POS brackets they sent.

Oh well, i'll get back when i get it done, after that, i have to deal with cap and rotor, just gotta buy those star shape screwdrivers.

OMG, just so u know, that thermostat is gonna be a bitch to take out! ****, how the hell they tighten those bolts so tight?!? Well i sprayed some lube all over it last night, maybe they lose now.

Later

just make sure that when you put the thermostat housing bolts back in to be very careful and not cross thread. and also when removing the bolts take your time, you don't want the bolts to snap off while they're still in the intake, that'll really give you a headache. let us know how that coil worked out for you

I drilled the rivits out and used the bolts and nuts they gave to install it. It was rather easy.

Hey guys, the coil is installed! Ya after numerous attempts with the chizel and hammer, i scraped most of the rivet heads off, but wasnt enough. So i took out the drill, and just drill right through them.

So i got the bracket uninstalled from the stock coil, and took the bracket and attached it to the MSD coil, and put that to the stock mounting bracket. Its perfect now!

Thanks guys for the tips.

Now i have a problem removing the stock rotor! Need another post for this
