another cam question
ok I know that there is a lot of these and I've read through some and learned some so I tink I've got an idea of what i want I'd just like some imput from you guys. Anyways I was looking in my old next generation book and here is exactly what the specs are: hyd flat tappet dur.050 212/212 lift .444/.444 lobe seperation 112 its in the computer compatible cams section and they say its 50-satate legal, stock 305tpi.
is this a good choice? I've got a 86 305 tpi flowmaster exhaust, k&n filters, home made ram air, de screened maf and thats about it everything else is stock. I have nothing big planed for the future maybe just do a tb bypass, exhaust cut out, air foil, high flow cat, and other minor things just for a little extra pop.
I dont want to change anything else when I do this cam I wanna stay with stock valve springs and what not thats why i think this may be a good choice for me and i do want to go a bit on the concervative side cause I want the car to last as is and this cam is a huge improvement over the penut cam that came in it from what the tech data says its dur.050 is only 174/198 i believe so it should be a good improvement, well thats it thanks for the help

I'd go with either of those cams in your 305. They should make quite a difference, but yet not over cam the car.
i'm guessing that with that xtreme cam ,and a good exhaust system,,and if you want to go 305 crazy port those heads with bigger valves,, you will hit high 13's ,, on my 305 i will do the heads when i change the cam ,,, people who have done the heads say they made 15% power , now add 15% with 190 hp is 220 hp then with the cam add another 45 hp and now you got a 265 hp . add some headers, with a vagilante tourqe converter and decent gears and you will see a very quick 305 .
