Hey, I have had a rattle for some time now when I take my car into upper rpms. I have looked everywhere to try to figure out where it is coming from but have had no luck. Yesterday, I had my hood up and the engine running, and I noticed there was a click every once in a while coming from the front of the motor. Everytime it would click, the belt tensioner would just barely move. I can put my finger on top of the tensioner and feel it click and move at the same time. Is this what could be making my rattle??? Or is this something that all of our motors do (it would be nice if one of you guys could check to see if your tensioner makes noise when the engine changes speed or when it is coming down from a higher rpm)? Do you think I should just buy a new tensioner to make sure? I think they are $50-60 since I bought one shortly after I purchased my car (about 2 years ago). The one on the car when I bought it actually broke off while I was going down the road.

mine did that exact same thing a couple of years ago, got a new one from gm and its been fine ever since.

 

Did yours make a noise while you were driving, too??? Like when you press the gas did it make an annoying rattle?
