problems with Accel Runners install

I worked for a while tonight and finally ended up taking my valve cover off and my fuel rail had to be loosened. I have to go tomorrow and get some bolts for them (I thought the stock bolts would work but the head of the bolt is too big on the driver's side rear). I hope all of this is worth it. I never imagined this install would be this hard. Has anyone else had these problems while installing aftermarket runners? I bought these used, so it didn't come with instructions. That would have probably have helped...
If anyone still has those instructions I could still use them. Or if nothing else, does anyone have any more tips in installing these???

Thanks for any help,
Jonathan

I always remove valve covers...easier to get to bolts on bottom.

When installing I keep the fuel rail loose so I can get the bolt on the pass. side in beside the #6 injector in tight and the bolt behind the #3 inector in tight on the driver side. Bolts I use (from Accel) have a torx bit type head of which my tool is fat and needs the extra room. Socket type head and using an extension may be easier. Need to loosen the fuel rail to slide in the runners if nothing else. It just takes a little patience. Just be sure to connect everything up MAT sensor, EGR valve, etc. before bolting down the plenum.

I've taken mine off and put back on several times. Once I got the hang of it, it takes me about 10-15 minutes to take off or put on.

Had no problems installing mine with the valve covers on or the fuel rails in place. The only problems I encountered were with my cold start valve making a vacuum leak, and the runners are a bit shorter than stock so my plenum had to be clearanced a bit to make room for my afpr.

Always disconnect the negative battery cable.

If you have to take off completely, you'll need to bleed down the fuel pressure (if it doesn't bleed down itself). Won't harm the fuel pump. Just a matter of not getting gas everywhere. Do it when the motor is cool so gas won't hit anything hot like exhaust manifolds.

1990 plenum shouldn't need any clearancing.
