Throttle body disassembly question

i guess i'll give you the background first...

i'm doing a carb to lt1 intake swap (harder than a tpi to lt1 swap, from parts and knowledge POV). Now my tpi donor parts were an 87 and an 85 iroc (comp and harness from the 87, everything else from the 85). The lt1 intake came from a 97 z28. I bought the lt1 intake, rails, and tb for 120...figured i was set. found out i needed different harness ends for an lt1 tb...no big deal, bought one adapter (TPS) and fabricated another (IAC...did a nice job too IMO), so i went on and drilled the intake (believe it or not, it can be done pretty well on a drill press) and got the dist. hole figured out, made block-off plates, clearanced for the new style dist. i had to buy (the 85 was not friendly toward this swap). Bought a new throttle bracket, found out tonight by mocking it up on a friend's torn down engine that i need a 4th gen throtte cable too. Thought i was done with all the little bs and was ready to bolt it on and get at the minor bugs...but one more came up and bit me in the ***...

problem:
The lt1 tb i have didn't need a detent cable, so it has no provisions for one (got a nub on the side it will physically connect to, but the direction of travel is toward the back of the car when the gas pedal is depressed). So this leads me back to this ugly tpi throttle body, it's dirty, it's scratched up, it's got nicks in it, and 6 of the screws that hold the IAC/tb coolant passage part on are broken off and still won't let me take the damn plate off so that i can fix them. So here is what i need to know, is it possible for the axle that the butterflies and everything else connect to to be removed or atleast have the end removed so that i can swap for the lever that i need without a special tool or anything? I don't have a problem with it not looking perfect, and if it's weldable, i can do that too, i just don't wanna pull it apart and mess something up. I know the shaft can be removed because otherwise they couldn't bore the tb to 58mm, and i know somebody on here has done a home 58mm conversion and most likely knows how to do what i need to do...but i can't remember who it is and can't find it...

so i beg of you all, help me here...if i can get this damn thing done, i'm going to write a VERY comprehensive tech article with pictures and all so that hopefully it's easier for everyone else...

thanks in advance,
elmo
