which injectors?????

i believe one or more of my injectors is stuck open and i have done all the test....inj resistance is fine, fuel pressure drops to zero in the blink of an eye even with the return line pinched off. i am looking for a new set of injectors. my mods are basic and i will be adding a set of headers after i get the car running right again. i am looking for a set that will drop right in with no probs such as retaining clips (svo) not working right. i need a set that drop in with NO probs. i was looking into a set on www.fiveomotorsport.com for like 188 bux. they are 22# injectors. has anyone had any experience with them? what about accells? i am just looking for a set that will work with no mods neccesary for installation. thanks in advance.

i have 3 injectors that are bad, and will be replacing them with 24# accel's. these are a direct, no mod, replacement. the clips in the injector rail will always be there.

there is an excellent article in tech central on changing injectors on a tpi, it also has lots of good tips.

i will be changiong mine next week, will let you know how it goes.

I have accel #30 injectors in my 87 TPI. They went in with no problems. I am happy with the product.

To be absolutely sure if an injector is leaking pull the fuel rail bolts and pull the fuel rail up so you can see the bottom of the injectors and then prime the fuel pump by turning the key but not starting the car. If any are stuck open they will **** out fuel. Also remember when going with Ford injectors they are rated at a lower pressure so when put to the pressure in your car they will really flow like a bigger injector. I have Accel injectors and am happy with them. Hope this helps. -john

Do you need to modify the injector driver when using 30# ford?, what fuel pressure should I run?

Thanks

changed out the injectors on monday, went with 21# accel's, she runs like an animal now. couldn't pass up the chance to make some additional changes; added a TCI deep tranny pan (holds +2 quarts), 180* thermostat, Accel fuel pressure gauge (fuel rail mounted), Fel-Pro gaskets, Hypertech stage 1 street chip (will be installed in 2 weeks) and a K&N air filter.

changing the injectors was hard work, but went as planned. figure about 6-8 hours total time, only wild card is the amount of time you need to clean off the old gaskets. my dad did the runners and plenum, i did the intake manifold. he was done in an hour, took me three.

couple hints; make sure you have both long and short torx drivers, if your car has Air Injection, get ready to remove it as well as the alternator. do not use a haynes manual they are crap, get the gm service manual. use a little tranny fluid on the injector o-rings for lubrication on reinstallation. once they are reseated and the fuel system is reconnected, pressurize the system and check for leaks. when removing the driver side runners, you have to loosen and partially remove the fuel rail (must go to the front of vehicle about 1.5") to get the last runner bolt (it is backfed). and use a good torque wrench, the 2 grunt method on aluminum is not the best practice. neither is letting fuel **** out of the injectors to see if they are stuck open!.

i have plenty of pictures (1600 x 1200) that i will be glad to send via email.

Actually if you are careful checking the injectors that way is fine. Also congratulations on wasting your money on a junk off the shelf chip and a fuel pressure gauge that you can not see under load where it matters.

Congrats man, you should be proud of youself. Don't mind some people on here who just like to be rude. I'm installing some new injectors in my car this weekend as well. Little more work for me though. Gotta pull the Superram off.

i would probably have let it bother me if i was 12, i try to live by jimmy buffet's lessons of life...lesson 1 - *******s are born that way, they don't change.

to big bird's comments...yeah, i probably wasted a couple bucks on the chip, unfortunately i had not read the posts about chip burning, live and learn. about the pressure guage being under the hood, my purpose was to make sure i had appropriate pressure, too many gm tech's didn't feel my problem was with the injectors, although i could have run a line out to the drivers dorr with a stop **** to check under load.

so, rocket man, i was looking for some pics of your car, but couldn't find it.

I actually just have never taken the time to work out a way to load pictures onto the computer or i would have loaded some pictures up by now. I have an 89 GTA with a 383 and looking back I was in a touchy mood and responded stupidly for pretty much no reason. Sorry. I think we have all bought parts that weren't worth what we paid in the end. I live near Cleveland and worked construction off of route 3 303 and 18 a lot over the summer. You anywhere near there? Again sorry about being a dick I know i hated those people when i first came to the boards and it seems as if I became one for a minute. -John

I live in Parma at home but I go to college at Ohio state. I am going home to take my car out of storage this weekend. When is the POCI show? I am not sure where the vocational center is in brecksville but if I get the date and time of the show I will probably go. Glad we are over the misunderstanding cause I have wanted to meet some people from the boards in our area. Just let me know the details if you can. -John
