Get a few more ponies. GOT TO!!

I have a bone stock 195 hp 91 z-28. I want to get enough power to run with a stock mustang gt. They have 260hp. Will a good set of heads and filters along with a chip give me what I need to pick up the difference. My goal is to beat a 96 gt. If not, i'm just going to redo my interior.

Stock 91 Z with 195 hp? Your car came with either a 305 or a 350. THe 305 is rated at 235hp and the 350 is rated at 245hp.

A good set of heads will help you out but there are other factors that will play. You may not want to look into heads at this point. If your going to spend the money on heads, you can get other things. If your just starting off, I'd say look into an exhaust and then maybe some intake mods. After that you could look into a cam and some heads. After that look into a custom chip for the car.

Hope that helps, keep an eye here, you'll get a lot of good suggestions.

Depending on what he's got there... 4 engines available ... 3 - 5.0's and 1 - 5.7 liter... 170,205 and 235 horse 5.0's and 245 on the 5.7's ... If your running a throttle body car I'd recomend sometning like a ramjet engine or a 350 with a complete stealthram kit or projection. Not knocking throttle body but by the time you spend a boat load of money on factory trottlebody to get it in the 13's you could have built a 10 second street car.

It's a 91Z28 so it is definitely TPI.

You're down 30hp from the factory because of your exhaust compared to a dual cat car.

You didn't say if it was A4/M5, but either way some 3.23 - 3.73 gears will make a big difference.

Those 2 alone will make the biggest bang for the buck difference. With just headers/dual cats/3.23s and the free stuff i went from 15.1 to 14.38, and thats in a heavier convertible. That's enough to suck the doors off a stock 96GT, and keep you in a race even with the later 260hp version.

Beyond that you can do what you want
