lt4 hotcam in l98
lt4 hotcam in l98
ok im having some lifters replaced, while my mehcanic was in there he mentioned swapping cams. i have the hotcam kit.
1. if i install the cam, would there be any problems with the computer?
2. would the cam benefit me at all since the only mods to the enging are exhaust and 1.6 roller rockers.
3. and if i install the cam, do i have to install springs too?
thanks

A1: should run fine but not optimal, as long as your still running MAF.
A2:borderline not really sure here, stock heads on our car flow like crap plus to add to it look at A1. Desktop dyno show thats it worth 30+ hp but who knows without tuning. If anything it will sound sweet as hell at idle.
A3 YES! If you bought a hotcam kit the springs should be good enough for the cam and included 1.6 RR's. If you just bought the cam your options are good 1.26 diameter springs or getting your heads machined for larger diameter springs, I'd do the later-get it done right and while your at it put in screw in rocker arm studs.
If you want to make even more hp port your heads and get larger valves. You could also mill your heads for some more compression.

thanks for the answers. i would love to do all that with the engine, but the only reason im takin it apart is to fix a bad lifter. plus i dont have the money to get work done to the heads.
what good would screw instuds be? and would the competitors 2300 springs be good?

Not sure about particular brands but definately put in screw in rocker studs. With the 1.6 RR the lift on the LT4HC is .525/.525. I think the stockers were supposed to be good to .500 but when I did my Miniram/LT4HC swap last weekend a couple of the factory studs pulled out a bit easier than I would have cared for.
Pretty cheap piece of mind!
Also, I thought the hot cam kit came with springs? Why are you looking for diff ones?
Good luck with the swap.

Hey schultzy , I was just deciding on a cam for my mini-ram swap . I already have the 1.6 hot cam rockers , so the lt4 hotcam seemed like a good choice . Do you have stock heads ? Did you run into any geometry problems with the valvetrain ? Basically , how did it all work out ? THANKS
Threads tend to get pretty confusing when more people just chime in with their questions. Some of you might want to start new threads and sort this out easier. just trying to help some of the new guys. -John

Actually the original poster changed his avatar so I thought that was a third person with a question and the post looked very confusing that is why I replied as I did. I was genuinely trying to help because i saw you had four posts and if someone has already read a post that they are not interested in they will not reread it and see your new question.
Glad to see that your first post was something meaningful tech related and insightful about an issue that concerned you.
