TB boot pipe thing

hey guys!

I am missing the pipe from the throttle body boot and the TPI airbox on my 1992 Camaro Z28 5.7 TPI. Could I just use some 3" PVC pipe or something????

Has anyone done anything custom? The wrecking yards around here want $40 for this pipe...

Thanks a bunch,

Garett

There is no pipe that i know of on the 90-92 cars. you have a boot and the y filter housing. you can get the boot new for less then 20.00. And the housings come up on ebay pretty cheap.

Good luck.

there is a pipe. you have the TPI boot (which is about 4" long) then a pipe that runs from the boot to the y-filter-box-assembly.

Sounds like your talking about a Maf setup. This is the stock box and boot on my 90 SD setup.

Wow, you evidently know something neither GM nor Helms know...both think there is a ~10.25" rubber bellows that connects the TB to the y-duct on '90-92 F-bodies.

You should share your "wisdom" with them so they don't keep spreading misinformation.

(guess the air really is thinner in Canada)

Well it really depends if they're talking about a Camaro or Firebird. The air intake is differant on each I believe.

Yes, the Pontiac intake tract is substantially different from the Chevrolet type. The lower nose and hood line precludes the use of the 'Y' pie/filter unit, and necessitated the battery reloaction to the left corner. The intake tract on a Pontiac is somewhat less restrictive than the 'Y' filter adapter, in that it is a larger round duct.

The guy's asking about a '92 Camaro.

I agree the 'Bird ducting is a nice design, can't figure why GM didn't just make it that way for both.

Yank the 'Bird filter can, install a K&N cone, and you're pretty much at the point of diminishing returns in terms of airflow.

However...for the Camaro there is only one published design and it's a ~10" rubber bellows that likes to collapse @ WOT when it's hot.

I noticed mine @ the drag strip, my data captures showed the MAP values declining at high revs. I rigged up some bracing w/ zip ties, back to 100KPa the whole way down the strip and an accompanying improvement in MPH.

bracing? You mean, just zip ties around the boot? That's interesting, I'll have to make a note of it. Thanks!
