5.7 questions
Yeah, well i am a newbie.
i just bought a 1989 Iroc-Z
Loaded.
5.7
Just some thing people are noticing and myself.
it has 58K orignal miles. but the head look new or painted..they are silverish color. And I have had some questions about the injector size that they look bigger then stock.
Anyway I can tell whats up for sure?
And on a side note....are there any Free or cheap mods to help me get more out of this engine?

If you haven't been welcomed already, let me say
WELCOME!
Are you talking about the cylinder heads or the valve covers? I ask because most '87-'92 TPI motors had silver colored valve covers.
If you can tell injector size by looking, then you have some superhuman powers. Look for some ID numbers on the injectors if they are GM units. From there you can prove their rating, maker, and year of origin. A 5.7L should have 22 pounders.
Free or cheap mods?, check out the FAQ's and tech articles on this site. Here's a link,

'silver' heads.........
sounds like the heads are aluminum......
alot of the corvettes used aluminum heads, and you can tell by the casting number (i can't help you with a number) or a simple magnet test......
they're really nice heads if they are indeed aluminum.

why dont you pull of a valve cover and look for the casting numbers. They will be located in the rocker arm valley.
Look here when you have the numbers

Okay. Maybe I should put in a disclaimer. This was told to me by my neighbor, a Pontiac mechanic.

It's held true for me so far.

Cool! Ya it is hard to say, me being form Canada, maybe they made them a bit different?? Mind you the L98 that is in My Monte SS came from Florida, and it was a Amercian car. Hence the MPH speedo instead of Kilometers.

My 1992 305 TPI has black valve covers from the factory. It was made late in the model year (April) though.

MY 86 IROC has black valve covers and my 89 IROC has the silver looking ones. So I dont know if it matters.
