*LOOK* What to take? *LOOK*

I found a 305 with the TPI setup on it. Now what I'm woundering is what I should take from the car to put it on a long block? Only thing that is missing is a/c comp. and the wireing harness.. Funning thing about the wires tho, they left all the plugs in the motor with about 3" wires hanging off of them, seems kinda weird to me..

Take the entire upper half (intake, runners, plenum, throttle body, ducting, distributor, MAF) Also take all the sensors you can with all the pigtails they left on them. The more you get at once the easier putting it on another engine will be.

if you could, just take the whole block with the ecu... then when you get it to your house, it will be a lot easier to take off all that you need instead of it being all crammed in the engine. also, what year is the block, cause if its not a roller block(87 and up) then you could use the heads that are on it. Or if your new 305 is a roller block and the 305 in question is a roller also, you could take the heads off. the LB9 heads would be a great upgrade from other 305 heads. good luck with the build up.

WooHoo!

Just got back from the junkyard. The car that the FI system is coming from is an 88' Firebird Formula, before I started taking it appart I got the vin and checked that out (for any who want to know the vin 1G2FS21F8JL236905 ). And the motor its all going to be put on was perchest about a year ago to replace an 84' 305, I'm not sure what heads or anyother parts are in the motor tho.. Well anyway, I took the intake, runners, plenum, throttle body, distributor and fuel rails. Those are the parts I know for sure I have, I'm going to get my friend to take a few pics so you guys can see what all I got.

the intake is not going to fit... you need to play around with the bolt holes. 86 and older and 87 and up have different intake bolt patterns... find an 86 intake and your gunna be good.

hmm, well if thats right i mite just have to buy a set of heads to make it all come together then but till then.. what are all the sensors on this thing? there are 2 on the front of the intake manifold, 1 on the throttle body, 1 on the back underside of the plenum and 1 more on the driver side of the intake manifold (junkyard guy said it was a primer injector, kinda like a choke?)
last thing.. there is this saucer shaped thing right in the center of the whole assembly, what is it? and thanks for your help guys

Ahh intake manifold? dunno
1 on the throttle body,
there should be two on the tb... one goes to the side, thats the throttle positioning sensor(TPS), and then the one on the underside is the Idle air control motor(IAC).

1 on the back underside of the plenum
that is the incoming air temp sensor(IAT).. it should be screwed into the plenum (upper manifold)

and 1 more on the driver side of the intake manifold (junkyard guy said it was a primer injector, kinda like a choke?)
that is the cold start injector... 85-88 had them... it was for cold starts (duh!) to add extra fuel for start up.

last thing.. there is this saucer shaped thing right in the center of the whole assembly, what is it? and thanks for your help guys
that thing is your exhaust gas recirculation valve.. aka EGR valve.. that for emissions.

also, make sure you have the mass air flow sensor.. it shold of been attached to the plastic intake tube... it should say Bosch on it .

Should be 2 on the throttle body, A Throttle Position Sensor and an Idle Air Control motor.

1 on the back underside of the plenum

and 1 more on the driver side of the intake manifold :

Didn't need the dual fans, some one else took the throttle cable, but I did get the EGR solenoid. Just went to look at the TB again and theres only 1 plug on it, but it has 4 wires coming out. Its on the bottom left side looking at it from the front.

That's the Idle Air Control (IAC) the one right above that (it's 3 wires) is the throttle position sensor (TPS) if it's not there you will need to get one.
