?? regaurding HSR and blowby.

my engine has a serious case of blowby and it seems to have started after I put my HSR in. I noticed that the Fel Pro 1205 gasket has no hole cut out in it where the EGR port would be on the drivers side of the TPI intake. The HSR has no EGR so a hole in the gasket would serve no purpose right? If that hole is blocked on the head, would it cause blowby. my engine has about 20K on it and it was bought new from GM.

blow by is extreme pressure in the crankcase.
this pressure is:
escaping combustion past the ring set and cylinder walls.
it can be caused my a malsealing of the intake to cylinder head.
but the pressure of the exhaust from the EGR crossover is very low.
yes the passage blocked by the intake manifold and a good seal
from the gasket should seal this from an escaping exhaust into
the lifter valley.
more than likely its combustion sealing issues.
a cylinder leak down test (compression can help) can determine
the amount of leakage.

my PCV is brand new and so is the hoses. My TB is coated with oil inside of it. The PCV valve is working and has a lot of suction. I just cant see how the rings can be bad, the engine has only 20K miles on it. Itsnever had nitrous on it andhas never been repeatidly beat on all day. All I do is drive on the highway with it. What other things can cause blowby? If I pull the dipstick out, a lot of smoke comes from the tube.

Smoke from the tube sounds like your oil is getting too hot. Lots of pressure like those guys said.

Try plugging the TB hole that runs to the valve cover, and install a breather cap on the valve cover.

This way if anything all the fumes will go into the combustion chamber, and into the air, not the TB

Im not puting breahters on my valve covers. That is just a band aid to the problem. Besides I already took the intake off and puled the tranny to get the engine ready to be pulled. I need to find the cause of the blowby before I do anything else to the engine. If I pull the heds, will I be able to see if the rings are the cause by a discolored piston?

What procedure did you follow to break in your motor?

180 to 190 is really the best temp to run your car at. For some reason people want to run it at a temp that is way to low and I think it is because lower temp causing less detonation so in the old days people with iron head high comp carbed cars tried to run colder once the gas went from 110 oct to less 95 in an effort to run full adv with no detonation. With todays modern tech you do not need to run down below 160 to avoid detonation. Also the eng shows less wear when run at 180 as opposed to 160. Think about you take a good cold intake charge and put it in a hot eng and what happens even if the eng doesn't fire? It expands which aids in the combustion process. Heat is your friend in the combustion process, a cold intake charge is what you want.

engine was started and run at 2500 RPMS for 10 minutes. The timing was established in that time and coolant was topped off. After that I shut it down and looked for leaks. The temp never got over 200 and never has to this day.

I'm not formiliar w/ that. I though that was more of a break in for a cam, not to seat the rings. Did you get on it after that?

If it's a flat tappet cam, you have to run the engine at 1500-2000 rpms for about 20minutes after you get the coolant topped and the timing set.

That is to break the cam in.

I don't know if you have to do that for a roller cam, but I'd do it anyway.
