Opinions on new intake setup

Would an open element air filter right below the opening in a formula hood be better than the stock air intake setup? I'm trying to figure out whether hot air or colder air would go through the filter. Would a heat shield on the bottom of the filter make a difference?

i would just make a CAI mounted in the stock position... the farther away the incoming air is from the engine, the better.
