TPI Sensor locations

Hi,
I'm swapping a TPI system into a TBI car. Here's what the situation is. I have a 1992 RS that I'm pulling out the 305 TBI engine and I'm putting in it's place a 1968 327 and I'm using a TPI system out of a 1991 GTA to fuel it ( Miniram soon). I have all the parts I need to do the swap. What I need to know is on the older block where do all the sensors go. If anyone has done a TPI swap with an older block can thay give me the locations of where they put all the sensors?

Thanks
Dustin

My motor swap used an 80 block in my 92 and they are pretty similar.

Lets see if I can remember.

Knock sensor= lower right side of block just above oil pan
Secondary fan switch=right side head between 6 and 8
Temp guage sender=left side head between 1 and 3
MAP sensor=attaches to upper plenum
Coolant temp sensor=front of lower intake
Manifold air temp=underside of plenum, can be relocated before
TB
Oil pressure sender=above oil filter in block (diff on older models)
TPS=on throttle body
IAC=on throttle body
VSS=in transmission

Can't think of anymore off hand, hopes this helps

The knock sensor is the only one that goes into the block. There is normally a threaded hole just above the fuel pump opening on the front of the block. You can get a fuel pump block off plate at Pep Boys or most any other parts house. I hope the TPI you have is a speed density type. Easier to install on late model engines.

You nailed it!

Those are the same locations I put my sensors on my 1971 block, and then later on my ZZ4.

THe only thing I had to do differently for my swap was put the knock sensor on the left side. I am running the Hooker Super Comp headers and there is no room for the knock on the right. However, there is a hole in the block in about the same location on the left and ample clearance to the headers. The wire for it was easily fished out of the loom and rerouted; I didn't even have to lengthen it.

It's under the upper plenum toward the rear. You can probably see it if you get on the drivers side and look at the rear of the plenum.

If you are going to change it anyways, you should relocate it to in front of the TB. This way it won't get heat soaked from the plenum after you are driving for a while. Just a thought...
