combo on a 305...
im going to be rebuilding my 305 this winter. i know i know why not use a 350. well the car is pretty original shape and id like to keep the original engine and ci in it. so what i want out of it is a really flat torque curve with a peak hp around 5500 at the wheels. im building this engine for flat torque and not peak...my first delema is what intake to use, i can mod the TPI by siamesing SLP runners and porting the base or i could just use a accel super ram, what would do me better for the power band i want?. i need some knowledable help to get with this. another thing is will the LB9 heads with porting be sufficient to 5500 rpms and be able to handle .480 + lift? maybe id be better off with world product heads. id like to really think out my combination of parts and not just throw together an engine.
id keep the TPI set up. If you have the money, get the SR heads.. for the money it would take to put all the stuff thats in the SR heads, you would probably arive to the same cost as a set. If you go with your stockers, your gunna need to expand the spring seat to alow for bigger springs for the higher lift cam. I dont know of any good rebuild kits for the 305. Are you going to rebuild her? or taking it somewhere? Since you want to keep the 305 in there, i sugest going with the best parts you can get. Also, have the block checked out by a good machine shop, maybe have them go over the bore .030-.050 and give you a little more ci. This brings up something i read in an old super chevy mag about destroking 305's and turning them into pretty decent motors...
