Maybe my 'small' injectors is causing this?

Okay, here is the problem:
When accelerating the motor rpm comes up nice and fast and it usually surges at that time and when it 'backs off' (it actually 'bucks' and seems to cutout) when the RPM's reach about 2500-3000 it goes away.
it does it so quick it actually chirps the tires!
On the hiway at 65 MPH in 6th gear it runs like a champ.
I have done a fairly quick check and don't see any obvious problems. Checked for vacuum leaks, etc.. I installed all new sensors when I built it so I don't think that is the problem, I adjusted my TPS and set the timing.

The motor is a 406 with aluminum heads and a 222/230 ~ .500/.502 lift roller hydraulic and full roller Crane rockers.
I used a stock 1988 TPI setup (I ported the plenum) off of a 350 IROC and I cleaned the injectors which are 'standard' 350 units (24 lb) I am buying a set of 30 lb injectorsthough.
I am old to carbs and new to TPI and wondered if any TPI gurus think it is my smallish injectors? Arizona TPI thought the 24 lb injectors would be just fine.
Oh, I have converted it to Speed Density and had a chip burned that tells it I have 30 lb injectors.
Could it be that the computer 'thinks' it has larger injectors so it pulses them at a shorter duration?
HELP!!

Yea, your ecm should think it has the injectors that it does have. Is the TPI setup off a corvette? IIRC F-Body 350 injectors are 22lb.

Opps! you are right, they are 22 lb'ers from a F-body. Don't know why I thought they were 24 lb ones So I guess I am leanin' her out pretty good! Thanks for the info, that may be my problem!

Yeah, the 30's should be good for a 406.

With stock runners (and possibly stock base) you are choking your 406...so the stock 22 lb/hr injectors will work just fine...set the injector contact back to where it should be...

Adam, what do you mean to set the injector 'contact' back to where it should be? If you mean to change the ECM/PROM to tell it the 22 lb/hr injectors are installed I can't do that right now as I have only 1 prom and I don't have the equipment (yet) to burn my own chips so I paid $350 for the programming! Stupid, I know but I didn't know it was going to run that much.
I was mainly concerned on building a torque motor for the street (I think I accomplished that!) but I really need to fix the cutting out!
Later on I am going to go to large runners and a new intake manifold but for now I can't afford it after all the expenses!!
Thanks for everybody's input!

Just a mispelling...I meant constant...

When I first put my 406 in my GTA, I used an Edelbrock Hi Flo base and the stock plenum/runners/injectors...lots of torque to about 4000 rpm and then it dropped off...

Hopefully my new combo won't

Also, if you have a MAF setup...use a stock chip for now then...I had one burned to account for no VATS, EGR, etc...back when I was too ignorant about chip burning...I really wish I hadn't given Ed Wright MY $350...live and learn...

If you had a SD setup, then you would have to change the chip to account for the larger volume engine...

Your so right.. I do a lot of electronics and even program PROMS, EPROMS, etc. and planned on doing it myself but ran out of time.
I do had a SD setup but if I had to do it over I would have gone with the MAF and changed it to SD after I learned to burn 'em myself, when I bought the TPI it came off of a 1988 F-body and I had the 165 computer and MAF (still has the screens on it) and all the sensors but I bought a 730 and converted to the SD. I sometimes do stuff for absolutely no valid reason at all!
