lt4 hotcam
lt4 hotcam
is anyone running a lt4 hotcam in a 305?? how does it run? any hp numbers?? i have a 92 z28 305 tpi and i have slp catback, slp ported runners, ported plenum, fuel preasure regulator set at 49lbs, air foil, 160 thermostat, and a couple of other nick nacks. how do you think the hotcam would run in my car if i put 1.6 rockers and better springs?? im gonna run this for a while but for my graduation present im gonna put a t-56 and a ls1 in. SLEEPER!!!
There is gunna have to be a lot of work to the heads to show the LT4 Hotcam's power off. It realy works well with 1.6 rr's. You will have to get the heads milled for bigger spring seats, and elongated for the push rod for the 1.6's. and while they are out, you should port and polish, valve job, maybe open the intake valve to 1.94 inches, new seals, etc.. Sounds like a killer grad pressent your getting!!! I wana do a LS6 swap.... now to find a wrecked z06 or a fbody with a ls6 swap and save up for some parts!!!
i have the hot cam in my 305 and it works great, but I also have alot of head work done to my sr 305's. I don't have any dyno numbers but the car pulled 1.82 60ft and run 8.98 in the 1/8 .Th car has more left in it because i'm having to let up to half throttle to get it to shift 2-3 so i'm going through the traps at 1/2 pedal. Once i get tranny straightened out i willlet you know the times
chikn305, you have the same set up as what i want. I thought that all that work would net a high 13 sec 1/4 since i have seen a lot of 305 5spds run the same time as you. You have a very good 60'. Have you had a chip made for your car?
That time was on the stock chip and I do'nt know if you noticed that I can't run full throttle in 3 so there's still some left. i also have to put the 24lb injectors in. i have a tpis stage 4 chip for when I get the injectors in.
sweet man, very sweet. yea id say there is plenty left in that combo. Im still up in the air about building up teh 305,selling it, and getting a bigger engine... i dont know, we will se.

You should really look into having a custom PROM made....that would eliminate the need for bigger injectors....My bet is your car is running too rich at idle now....with the Hotcam. Ive heard bad things about TPIS's stage chips......post your problem over on the DIY-PROM board.....I know they could help ya. I hate to see you spend money you dont need to......good luck

Well the only reason I say that is because 24lb injectors are more than enough for a stock 350...even with the Hotcam...as long as its tuned correctly via custom PROM. Tuning for a cam change isnt too difficult in all honesty. You just have to have patience. The majority of the tuning I think is in the lower VE tables, because of the lack of vacuum at lower rpms.....that wreaks havoc on the Fuel press reg.....even an adj wont cure it totally. The only other major issue would be timing. I would at least try the stock injectors first...if you cant tune it then get the bigger ones. Im all about the saying 'if its not broke, dont fix it'..... I mean after all....it wouldnt hurt to try that first.
