The difinitive IAC resetting post
Ok guys, I've already searched this site and I also have both chilton and hayne's camaro manuals. I am still somewhat confused though.
At what point in this procedure do I remove the A-B diagnostic port paper clip? I've read that starting the engine with those ports gapped will damage the computer, but the manuals never say when to take it out during the whole process of resetting the IAC which requires starting the engine more than once.
I would just adjust my idle-speed stop pin at the plenum because it is way too low, causing me to sometimes double-foot it at stoplights, but I've also read that doing this will damage the IAC motor in the long run.

Read 'turning the screw', and for that matter the rest of this article also.

Short A to B
Turn key On
Wait 30 secs
Unplug IAC
Key off
Unshort A to B
Start engine and set min idle, TPS what ever.
Take car for test drive and exceed 35 MPH a few times, this forces an IAC reset, in the ecm code wise.
Stop and Recheck idle.
Things should be OK.
If the adjustment was fubar'd or there is some loose gunk it might take a redo.
Personally I don't like reling on the IAC to maintain an idle, so I typically set the min idle speed so that there is less then a IAC count of less then 10 at idle.

Ok I reset my IAC and am very satisfied with the new idle. At a stoplight it is at a strong 600 rpm. I had to fully extend the throttle stop pin though, while resetting the minimum idle speed. When I first start it up it revs up to 2000 and then comes back down. I think that is kind of high. And in park it will sometimes hang at 1500. Are these indications of a faulty IAC motor? It's a couple months new from Autozone, so carbon buildup isn't an issue.

James/Bob,
you can plug the IAC in after you shut the car off, or even when it's running. It won't do anything though, until you shut the car off and restart it.
BTW, neat name, the same as my 2 brothers.

This is probably stupid, but are you sure you unshorted a and B by taking the clip out? If you leave it in and try to start it, thats what will happen.
