throttle body ???

throttle body ???

I need to know if there is supposed to be any play in the throttle body shaft.The end where the cables connect.Mine seems to have some play and i cant get my car to idle smoothly at all or idle under 800 rpms.If there is not supposed to be any is there a way i can fix it nyself or do i need another.I also think i have some leaking injectors i will check them 2morrow.Thanx for any help!!!

I have the same problem w/ my Holley TB. My buddy said that I need to get a new one.

There should be very little to no play at all from the TB shaft. Most likely worn shaft bushings/bearings are to blame. Common problem. Ebay machinists usually replace them with sealed needle bearings when they perform the overbores on their cores to help eliminate this problem.

I have this problem too and emailed one of the guys about installing the needle bearings without overboring my TB just as a rebuild proceedure. IIRC, he said it would be like $40-$50 plus shipping to do it. I must have deleted the email though, or I would have given you his email address. Just search on ebay and email a few of them and they'll be glad to help you out...

IIRC is internet speak for If I Recollect Correctly. Just search for "TPI Throttlebody" and you should find a couple of the machinists that do these mods. Look through their listing to make sure it's one of them that replaces the bearings with the new needle bearings instead of reusing the stock ones.
