LT4 Conversion???

All of these ideas are info that I have read about here and there, so feel free to scream and call me names if i'm way off...If the LT1 top of the motor (heads, intake and such) can't be used b/c the water jackets and the direction of the water flow is wrong, why not get an electric water pump made for an LT4. Electric keeps it off the belt. And why go with a used LT1 set-up when you can get and LT4 conversion for an LT1 motors heads, intake and such new for about I think $2500. Then you'll prolly have to the get intake converted????

the LT4 conversion consists of :

LT4 cilinder heads with valves and springs
LT4 red aluminiun intake manifold
GMPP hot cam
Bow tie roller rockers (1.6:1)
All gaskets

Estimated at 425+ HP

+u have to have the engine management system modified
+1992-93 applications need a 94-95 fuel rail

1992-95 : 2289.95
1996-97 : 2329.95

It wasnt mentioned.. Under 450 HP, its said
to use 1 5/8, but i'd get 1 3/4 .. im sure some
porting.. and fine tuning can get you near 450 ..

Based on information from research here on TGO, you would have to plug the outer coolant holes in LT4 heads by welding a piece of aluminum in, then have them milled flat where the welding was done and drill the "normal" coolant hole in the newly added plugs using a head gasket as a template. You can find info on this by searching for LT1 heads. Then you would do the same mods to the LT4 intake that John Millican does to LT1 intakes, you can find all the information on his website, which I don't recall right off. I've heard he doesn't normally mess with LT4 intakes but he may be willing to mod one for you if you ask. His mod's include tapping into the cooling jackets in the intake and connecting lines from these tapped locations to the cooling system. This addresses the differences in cooling and allows you to use your standard water pump. You use a remote thermostat housing with this modification as there is not a thermostat location in the LT1/LT4 intakes. He also adds the hole for the distributor & tapped hole for the dist lock-down, and provides a beveled spacer for dist mounting. I believe that is all you would have to do if you used both the LT4 heads and intake together. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, for info on results from the LT4 upgrade you may want to search or post on camaroz28.com, there are a lot of fourth gen (LT1) camaros being modded over there.

Thank you..I thought about searching on the LT1 but i thought that motor was different then the L98 with intake and stuff. So the info that i would get from that would be different then what I needed to know to make this work for a third gen. I guess my next step here is to talk to John

For the same $2500 you can get a set of AFR heads w/many extras. You'll still have $ 500-1000 left to decide wich intake you want; LT1, HSR and so on.
If you're just trying to make a conversation piece and something different for it's own sake, than go ahead.

I was looking into this kit for awhile, and the folks at camaroz28.com said it wasn't worth the money. Could get more for less, and most people using the kit are only seeing around 400hp.
