Which Air Intake setup is better

I am upgrading my 85 T/A's Air ducts mainly for looks but I would also like to know the performance gains(if any) I am getting.

This is my current stock setup:

This is what I am upgrading to off of an 88 formula 350

I am also installing a air foil kit:

Eather one is pretty restrictive...the 88 formy one probably has a little bit better flow but as I said before; they both are pretty crappy. GMHTP changed from the 88formy one to a custom made heavy duty plastic one and they saw a +15 HP difference. Without the intake they saw +27 HP. Just something to ponder.

Good luck!

Make a custom one with smooth tubing like PVC or Heavy rubber. Mount an open element filter on the end. Even if you don;t want to bother getting the filter to sit far away from the engine compartment, you'll see gains over a stock box and tubing.

PVC will fall apart before to long. Try seeing if you could get 4 inch exhaust bent at the right turns and mount a conical filter at the end in a cold place. Im sure you will get very good results.

I don't know if this makes a difference but the air cleaner assemnbly has a hole in the side of it like in the pic but my stock one now has no hole, So this must mean the Formy's Air Ducts have to flow alot more air and be much less restritve. I am also adding a K&N air filter.

Here is the biggest diff in the two setups compare both air cleaner assemblies The 88 Formy setup would have to pick up 3X the air the 85 T/A setup would And the 88 Formy using the same air ducts as the SLP CAI kit uses

WOW! I just instaled it and it is great, I noticed a huge difference in throtle responce

I do not know if it was the airfoil or the new ducts but I am still waiting to get my K&N(should get it tommorow)

Just so you guy's don't say I wasted my money on this stuff I actually got the Airfoil, the air cleaner assembly and duct from TB to MAF off of our 88 Formy 350 parts car(I am also fixing to do an engine swap to) I bought the other air duct from Hawks for 25 + S&H

you should also cut 2 windows in the airfilter housing about 4"x4". This is said to be good for 10-12hp. Its a free mod listed in the TPIS hints book.

I also like to put a wall between the aircleaner housing and the rest of teh engine compartment to limit how much hot air it's sucking in from there vs colder outside air, but it doesn't make a huge difference, I'm just a picky b*****d.
