Using In-Line FP with bad stock FP still installed
I just read an article on Iroc Fbody and there is a install guide for in-tank fuel pumps (EFI). At the end the poster claims you can use an In-Line FP (T-Rex) when your stock FP goes bad. Is that possible?

Pay close attn to which wires went where cause you can hook this pump up wrong and it will still sounds like it is pumping but it actually is pumping the wrong way. Just remember take your time and everything will work out for ya. Also you might want to check into this but a few people have put a T-REX inline pump on their cars when the stock went bad and it seemd to work fine and still pull enough fuel thrugh the stock pump. Just a thought! Any more ?'s

My personal experience and logical deductions points to the fact that it's a bad idea. If you install an inline FP and leave the dead one in the tank, the fuel will have to pulled thru the dead pump. NOT a good idea. My personal experience was my son's truck which is TBI and that idea didn't work! The previous owner had installed a second pump inline, we ripped it out and installed a new pump in the tank. His system only needed about 5-10 lbs fuel pressure, not 40-50 lbs.
From my experience, it will not work. I have a supercharged Z and put an inline fuel pump in my system, grounded the inline pump to my hobbs switch so it is activaved under boost. Well, two weeks after my knee surgery last may, my fuel pump went out! I grounded my inline fuel pump H O P I N G that would solve my problem. I was only able to limp it home! YES, I was on my back two weeks after my MCL/ACL and minisucs repair surgery FIXING MY %&*#*( car! I was not happy! So to answer your question with experience, it will not work! ON the side note, I was able to put my pump in the tank without completley removing the tank. I had the tank at a 45deg. and was able to slide the pump in and out of the tank without completly taking the fuel tank out of hte car.....that saved me two hours at least! BUt my darn knee was throbbing the entire time!
May or may not work, depends on how the intank pump failed, if the impeller stopped in such a position as to block off the inlet, then it won't work. And even if it does work you'll be pulling fuel through a dead pump which will put undue stress on the inline pump since the dead pump has now become a restriction to flow.

Thanks for your replys! I glad yall had some experiance and new. I wasnt going to do it i already had to pay $500 last febuary to get one put in (yeah i was F***** but i didnt have the tools or the knowledge at the time) They hid the $200 charge claiming to have cut the aftermarket exhaust off and weld it back on....but it was funny that when i got it back me and a friend checked the welds and they didnt look to new at ALL.....but you live and learn

When i did my pump i only had to unbolt the exhaust hangers and unbolt it from the cat then layed the exhaust on the rear end. Didn't have to cut any pipes.

I had a few guys help me swap out my stock pump this last summer.
We dropped the rear and had enough room to pull the tank with the exhaust still attached.
It wasn't pretty but we accomplished what we needed to do.
