GM's New Ram Jet 350
GM's New Ram Jet 350
I'm going to be replacing my 305. I've got Fast Burn heads. From what I can tell, only TPIS has a unit (the MiniRamIII) that will fit on the Fast Burns. However, I noticed GM came out with this new FI unit that works with Vortec heads (including the Fast Burns?). I need something smog legal and GM's Performance Parts catalog says this new FI unit works on any vehicle with a carb, 1978 or older.
Any opinions on this FI unit?

Can't you buy the "Vortec" TPI base and bolt the superam to it?
Granted not the cheapest method.
... if your handy with a welder or know someone who is ... there are other options.

Does the Scoggin Dickey Vortec TPI base cover the ports/align well enough on a Fastburn to be used? With the external crossover stuff you can run the EGR. Maybe the SuperRam runners/plenum will bolt on the SD base then, haven't heard...

The superram plenum and runners will fit an SDPC base...
However, I don't think the SDPC base is smog legal. Check that out before you buy it!

Good point. I've been told that SDPC didn't pay the $3500 or so to get an E.O. for that part. However, the part apparently looks as though it is factory original and they are getting by the smog inspectors.

I can't weld worth a damn, but I know somebody that can. What did you have in mind?
I like the SuperRam, but I understand the things are a bear to install.
8Mike,
The Fast Burns don't have the EGR thingy cast in to them like the Vortecs. I would have to run an external EGR.
Thanks for all the input.

IIRC the dual plain manifold that came on my FB385 motor had provisions for EGR, but like mentioned above, it would have to be external like those on earlier L98 Corvetes i believe. I am sure SD sells a kit for it b/c my manifold had a block off plate. Same goes for the SDPC manifold. It can be done and has been done. Also, try a search for the SDPC base with a Superram, I believe atleast two guys from this board have done it before. I believe it fits without much work too. sorry i could not be of more help. good luck

I know you have already decided against it but the ramjet 350 is a bad choice for any car as is. I have seen one go into a rod and it used gas like MAD. It doesn't have any O2 feedback, runs in open loop, and pig rich at cruise speeds. I wouldn't have one without adding some O2 feedback and tuning to it.

My 388 TPI with the SDPC base-plate, GMPP FB ALum vortecs, and 52mm TB is already built, emmisions shouldn't be a problem because it will pass a visual, once the sniffer OKs the exhaust I'm good to go in Houston, Texas

How much do they sell the intake, fuel rails and Throttle body for? (I assume this is all you need, right?)

The whole kit is like $1350. It needs special brackets and all, so you need the whole kit. www.sdpc2000.com has the setup and they give the part numbers for the items you listed, however even if you could get by with what you listed, the stealth ram is much much cheaper.
