Camaro vs Firebird
My firend was telling me that the engine in the iroc-z is faster then then the firebird. Were talking about the 350 TPI. IS there any difference in the engine.

Only in the intake. The Camaros intake was less restrictive, giving them a 5hp to 10hp advantage. Not much really, and it can be easily fixed with a home made cold air setup on a bird.

FROM WHAT I KNOW, THE MOTORS ARE IDENTICAL, IT'S JUST THAT THE PONTIACS ARE A COUPLE HUNDRED POUNDS HEAVIER, THUS DECREASING THE ET'S BY A TENTH OR TWO, AND THE MPH BY AN MPH OR TWO...

Its not a "couple hundred pounds" Its about 100lbs, and the more restrictive intake path cuts about 5-10hp off the peak.
The weight really isnt' an issue unless you are driving a GTA.

Just let your friend talk all the smack he wants.
Get to the track and find out who is faster.
If he's faster than you then give him props on his ride.
If you're faster than he is then rub it in BIG-TIME and tell him to quit talking **** about his car.
THEN go out and buy a couple of bolt-ons for the Bird since you know he's gonna have work done to his car so he can keep up with you.
Car hobbies are fun.

Camaros rule the road!!!
You and your friend, is this the same one that sold you that car!!, should really combine your efforts to make BOTH your cars fast...Friendly rivalry is always healthy though...

I agree that camaro's have a hair more power but the cold air intake will even things up. Now for the kicker.....he stated that it's a formula 350. Formula's are the lightest of all thirdgens. Not to mention that I like the pontiac calibrations better. So I would put my money on the formula 350...
Why are 'birds heavier than camaros anyway? I know our headlights must weigh more... besides the wheels what other differences are there?
Does anyone know a weight ranking off the top of their head? Like Form -> RS -> Z28 -> T/A etc. (Just my example.)
(Assuming all V8s)
I've heard a few times that gta's are the heavyweights (heaviest 'bird or overall thirdgen?), and 11sORbust just stated that formulas are the lightest thirdgen. (Are v8 base 'birds/'maros lighter?)
Are v6 cars lighter (motor difference aside) than v8s? I assume wheels/suspension, but would there be anything else?
I'm very curious about this topic.
An "unofficial" weighing (at an official state truck weigh station) put me at 3175 lbs with about 2/3 ~3/4 tank and without me. Most of my tools weren't in the car, neither was the spare tire/jack. Just small things (clothes, basketball, cd case, etc.)
It's a '91 base 'bird (3.1 auto w/ ac) currently a carb'd 355 (iron heads, alum intake), no ac compressor, no smog crap, no spare/jack. Does that 3175 sound about right?
Sorry to jack the thread, and sorry if it's the wrong forum.
Laters.

My cars are as follows... The 87 camaro with the 2.8l v6 is 31xxlbs. Formula is 33xxlbs, 82 z28 is 3450lbs, the 86 t/a is 35xxlbs. GM weighs the car and puts it on the door tag. Just minus load capacity and that'll be you "curb weight". I got the numbers from my door tags.

3440 w/ me in it. But there's not much GTA left in her. Haven't weighed her since I've pulled out my serpentine set-up and lightened the hood. But it should be around 3230 w/o me. Which doesn't really matter (haven't figured out how to get the car to drive itself).
