Stealth ram combos?

Ok, Im almost positive im gonna put on a stealthram in the spring. What I don't know now is what heads and cam to go with.

I have a mostly stock 1991 L98 350 Speed Density TPI with 101,000 miles. It has not been rebuilt that I know of. I am on a limited budget of about 1,500 and want to get as much as I can out of it.

The stealthram setup with the adjustable fuel pressure regulator and fuel rails is about $500.00. So im working with about $1,000.
Can I get a good head/cam combo with that. Also, I need headers as well so should i skip the heads or cam and do that later. I need as much input as i can get. I have a few months, but need to start getting a list of things I need to buy.

Thanks for any info.

YOU HAVE $1000 TOTAL? SO, DO YOU MEAN $500 AFTER PURCHASING THE STEALTHRAM?

IF SO, YOU'LL END UP HAVING TO GET YOUR STOCK HEADS PORTED, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW OF ANY GOOD HEADS FOR UNDER $500 (EXCEPT FOR VORTECS, WHICH YOU CANNOT USE). YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO FIND A GOOD SET OF USED HEADS IF YOU SEARCH THE NET A LITTLE. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PROJECT; I LOVE MY STEALTHRAM!

No, I have $1500 fo reverything, but i subtracted $500 for the stealthram. So I have $1000 for heads and cam. I want to know what and should get. Head and cam, Heads and headers. I need to know the best performance mods I can do with the remaining $1,000.

I think you're going to have to open up the checkbook some more..but not a whole lot more...

I've seen some EBAY sellers that sell Dart heads for about 640 +shipping, then figure a hydroller cam will set you back another 250 or so, assuming you're valve traing will handle the RPM's the HSR calls for, you'll still need another 300-400 for gaskets, coolant, hoses, ect that would be good timing to change. If you need to upgrade the valvetrain, you'll need to figure in that cost as well.

Alrighty, assume I hold off the heads and cam. Will the stealthram alone produce a lot of improvement over the tpi on a stock 350 tpi?

I don't think so...the HSR lends ability to turn higher RPMs, if you don't have the cam and flow to make it work, then you probably won't see much, if any gain from the swap.

Have you been to www.stealthram.com yet? Pretty sure I saw some dyno numbers or ET's that show no gain or drops when putting the HSR on too mild of a motor...although no tuning (PROM) was done at the time.

WITH $1000 YOU COULD PURCHASE A DECENT SET OF HEADS AND A HOTCAM, AND THE VARIOUS FITTINGS, ADAPTERS, GASKETS, AND HOSE. YOU ALREADY HAVE THE REMOTE COIL DISTRIBUTOR. THE FUEL LINE KIT FROM EARLS WILL RUN ABOUT $115, IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY. DON'T BE SCARED TO DO THIS PROJECT, JUST BE FRUGAL AND CALCULATED... YOU CAN PM ME IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HOW I DID IT.

Buy a good set of heads ($650), a cam to match your future mods (stealth ram)($200), headers($275), Custom Y-pipe($60) prom burning equipment($300) and port your intake. You should be able to get low 13s with those mods, maybe even eek out a 12.9*** and you will be set up for the SR when the time comes.

I would hold on on the HSR and get yourself a pair of nice heads and cam. use the tpi for now and save for the HSR. its easier to save $500 for the HSR then $1000 for AFR heads or something. I didnt notice anything with my HSR on the stock 350 setup. Its the little things you will have to buy that will bring the price up

If you only have $1500 to work with and want to go FAST for your money, then I recommend buying the NX GM EFI Nitrous Kit and their Gen-X2 Kit. I paid $1000 shipped from a now defunct company - you should have no trouble getting a similar deal if you shop around. Spend the extra $500 on tubular lower control arms, lower control arm relocation brackets, and subframe connectors. On a basically stock car like yours, this combo should place you firmly in the 12s at roughly 110 MPH. I would also recommend investing $50 in a 24,000 GVW transmission cooler from B&M. 700-R4 trannies let go fairly easily and heat is usually to blame. Check out the Power Adder Forums for more info.

If you save for heads and a cam for TPI, the heads might work okay with the stealth ram, but a cam good for TPI will NOT be so good for HSR if you are wanting the most out of what you have.

my .02cents.....

get the HSR, (won't see a lose) maybe gain some traction...

1500.00
600.00
-------
900.00

SUBFRAME REINFORCEMENT (MAJOR)

900.00
200.00
--------
700.00

Maybe a cam....with mods to the factory heads(optional)

700.00
500.00
---------
200.00

and you should be have enough left for LCA and reloc. kit

I do like the spak but unless you know how to peace one together from ebay, your aren't going to afford that too, on 1500 bucks

My reason for saying go with the HSR,(since i don't think he will see a gain) is because...

1. it is sooooooo much easier to work on....

which leads to say.....none of us have a permenant way to satisfy his question, all of them require further mods in the future.

P.s. just about all of our these idea and suggestion are good.
if we new you personally we could probably, give you the push in the direction you would be most happy with.....
