The heads bolt right up to the block, your intake won't. The bolt pattern & the ports are different. You need a Vortec specific intake to run those heads.

For a TPI setup, you need a SDPC vortec base.

the vortec/tpi setup is a nice setup. I managed to get my heads for 200$CDN so even though the intake was $400USD overall my investment wasn't that much to get my car solid into 13s.

Now with the heads and better flowing base I have room to grow. I can see my car running very low 13s with some more inductuion work.

Porting your stock heads doesn't give all the advantages the Vortecs have, such as fast burn combustion chambers, high port velocity due to runner shape and size, and good swirl. Making power isn't simply a flow #, but how they flow and how well the can burn the mixture.

FYI, If go don't go TPI GM sells an intake for carbs with the Vortec bolt pattern.

Get the heads mangafluxed before you do anything else if they are used. A lot of used Vortecs are cracked because of the intake design.

To use the TPI on a Vortec you need the SDPC base, which is thier own patented design. GM had nothing to do with it.

Mini ram vs. SDPC

the SDPC package with the vortec heads cost aprox 400+600
and the mini ram cost 200$ and a stage 2 porting job on stock heads is 400$+200 fuel rail witch one give the best performance for the price???

scoggin dickey makes a TPI manifold that mates to vortec heads for 400 bucks, and an egr kit and arp bolts for an extra 100 bucks total, of 500 bucks
