L98 + Stealthram + AFR 195's..... What cam?

I tried the search option and didn't get much info out of it. Here is the rest of the setup.

L98 (145k+ miles)
AFR 195's
1 3/4" SLP headers

I also will add 24# Injectors, a 52mm throttle body and Roller Rockers to the mix later too.

The LT4 Hotcam seems like a good choice, but so does the LPE 219. There were a few others thrown around on the search like the Xtreme energy HR , ZZX and such.

Since this motor has quite a few miles on it and is only a 2 bolt main motor I don't think that 6000rpm bursts all the time will take too well. I have already learned what 6000rpm + on an old 350 (2 bolt main) will do, and it ain't pretty.

So with the proper tuning to the ECM what would be my best choice on a cam that would be more for a daily driver with some kick?

I am only putting 1 cam in this motor so it has to be right the 1st time around. The next time I get a different cam is when my 383 is built (it will be awhile).

Comp cams told me to go with the 08-503-08 cam when i asked them... range is 1800-5800 rpms. you're going to need a tq converter, so i'd get a tci breakaway with a 2400 stall or something if i were you... it's cheap and works good. that, or a vig.... but those cost $$$ lol

If you want to keep it under 6k rpm, the LPE 219 should do great. I'd normally recommend a 230 or so cam w/ the HSR, but if you want it under 6k, the LPE 219 is tough to beat. And I think the single pattern of the 219 will work better with the afr's than the hotcam's split duration. My $.02

What is the RPM range on the LPE 219?

What about the LT4 Hotcam?

I would guess you guys wouldn't recommend spining my motor over 6K huh or do ya'll think it would be ok?

Just trying to figure things out......

I have a 224/230 w/.509/.528 lift.

I am putting in AFR 190s. I am afraid that I'll have to turn it to 7k rpm every time I take it down the track to get the best times.

Anywho, if I had it to do over, I would probably just go with a LT4 hot cam with this setup as many folks are making good power with it.

I have a zz4 bottom end w/SLP 1 5/8 tri-ys and a HSR...I am pretty comfortable spinning it up to 7k...but don't like to do it do to knowing it can't be that great for it either.(read that as...my wife is getting tired of me working on my car!)

Ditto Buckeyeroc's comment.

The AFR's flow well on the exhaust side and do not need a dual pattern cam. Also, longer exhaust durations tend to push the engines peak HP up by a few hundred rpm.

I vote for the XE 224/230 which is the 08-503-08 that was listed earlier. Pulls great to right at 6 or below and will work great with those heads. That cam also has a great flat torque curve!!!

Consider upping the injector size to around 28#..... I have a ZZ4 cam and the 24#s are somewhat of a limitation.....

Are your injectors still flowing right? I have 24#'s in mine and it runs just fine with them.
