88 iroc rebuild
ok im thinking about buying an 88 iroc, its got about 124k on it, and the present owner says it still runs strong, but for my own piece of my mind i wanna rebuild the engine. Ive been looking through summit and there are tons of kits available, which one do i need. Im thinking having it bored .030 over and then just replacing all internals. This wont be anything crazy for now, and im kinda limited on money, can someone offer me what to do and where to start, any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also im gonna be keeping the tbi which is why i posted here.

Be careful with the rebuild, I had a crappy experience with a very reputable shop( obscure problem- hard for even an expert to diagnose). I tried to save a little $, cost me alot more in the end. Save for a good new crate engine if you plan on keeping the car. a bad rebuild can cost you twice as much as you plan on spending, plus a waranty is nice.
If you do rebuild, go to the local guy with the best rep/ references for machine work, assembly whatever- don't cutt corners in the wrong places. If you do it yourself, be **** on the tolerences ( Cam bearing, rod bearings, mains, balanced rotating assy,Head prep, bolts used, quality parts, right combination of parts - these are critical for a solid rebuild) Oh yeah - if you have alot of old sensors- factor that in as well....
If you just need transportation- slap it together - and pray it holds together...
My $.02
