Corvette Proven combo list
I saw a list of proven combos a while back and was wondering if anyone knew the link. IT was a list of many types of engine combos that worked very well, might have been linked off of Corvetteforum.com.
Thanks

No idea - but there are tons of proven combos on TGO.
A bunch are probably going to chime in with some killer combos very soon but here is one now:
Superram
AFR 195s
LPE 219/219 cam
Tuning
Just one fairly well known.

I will add one:
-350 or above CI
-Vortec Heads
-1 5/8" headers
-XE262 or 268 cam (or equivalent depending on carb, TBI, TPI, etc)
-dual plane intake OR
SDPC base and good runners
Basically, any combo with the Vortec Heads or copies (E-Tec and Pro Topline's version)...the Vortec Heads have been dynoed in many of the magazines, including but not limited to, Car Craft and Chevy High Performance.

That is mine, but the cam. I have a 224/230 503''/510'' cam and am working on tuning Monday. On a good day I trap almost 114, but a little tuning later I only get 110. Just a little disappointed and looking for help. I know I need tuning help with teh prom as I am a rookie :-)
FYI.. last night I ran
7.87 @ 86.8 NA
7.17 @ 96.8 150 NX
Thanks
Chris

Yeah - see, I didn't even bother looking at your sig
So you know its a strong combo - I am sure you can alot more out of it if you suspect it needs more experienced tuning.

Here's the info from the site before it was taken down
:
Proven Set-ups
The following set-ups are all proven C4 Corvette set-ups that optimize the power they make, whatever that may be. You will notice for whatever level of power they make, their et's are well matched to the mph... in otherwords, there are no 600 HP 12 second set-ups in this section.
I feel its important to point out that while I have their best et's listed below, these are not rogue times, these guys are almost always within a tenth or two of their personal best most passes.
Note: The following brief descriptions of modifications do not list every single minor modification, however they do cover the most effective modifications.
* Ralph S --- Corvetteforum member "Ralph" has a rare stock L98 shortblock set-up that consistently runs in the 11's. His set-up is based upon a well balanced set-up that makes a nice combination of HP and Torque. The set-up roughly only makes around 400 HP at the flywheel, however this disproves any ideas that you need 450-500 HP to get yourself into the 11's. Ralph is never happy, therefore he is never done with modifications...look for his et's to fall in the coming year.
85 Corvette - auto
Performance: Best ET: 60 ft - 1.62, 11.72 @ 116.
Modifications: Stock short block, Ram Air, ported MAF, 52 mm TB, ported Superram plenum, runners and manifold, ported AFR 190 heads, LPE 74219 hyd roller cam, 1 5/8" headers, Borla mufflers, Formato chip, 3.45 gears, Pro-Torque 2800 rpm torque converter, Weld rims, front skinnies, 26" ET streets. Raceweight 3300 lbs
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* John P --- The famous corvetteforum member "Red96coupe" has put together a very simple but efficient C4 set-up with his lightly modified LT-1. This set-up is living proof that to run fast you don't need 400+ HP or nitrous or superchargers.... a simple set-up that allows you to put all of the HP you've got available to the ground is what this set-up is all about.
96 Corvette - auto
Performance: Best ET: 60 ft. 1.68, 12.48 @ 108.90
Modifications: Stock Motor, BPP air intake, Hypertech, 2800 rpm PI Vigalante torque converter, 3.73 gears, Weld rims, front skinnies, 28" BFG drag radials. raceweight: 3400 lbs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* John M --- Corvetteforum "MackeyRed96" has proven the same thing Ralph has, and that is, it doesn't take extensively modified motors with Superchargers and Nitrous to run in the 11's. A smart well put together stock short block LT-1 can easily run deep into the 11's with a matched and balanced top end set-up. He just got it together, you can expect the below et's to be improved upon this fall.
96 Corvette - auto
Performance: 1.61 60 ft, 11.71 @ 116.70
Modifications: Stock short block, Cartek "Big Mac Package" consisting of thoroughly ported heads, custom Hyd roller cam & custom programming. 52 mm TB, TPIS headers, SLP exhaust, 4.09 gears, PI 3000 rpm Vigalante torque converter, Meziere Electric water pump, Hal shocks, Pro-cooler, line lock, Weld rims, front skinnies, 28" BFG Drag Radials. Raceweight: 3400 lbs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Phil T --- Corvetteforum member "LT401vette" has really set the standard for LT-1 performance with his accurately named "Hoover" 93 Corvette. With a motor that makes roughly 600 HP, he has managed to break well into the 10's.... at the stock raceweight !!!! This is not a trailer car, he drives it almost every day !!! As you can see by his 1.4x 60 foot times, this is one of the quickest fuel injected naturally aspirated street cars I've ever seen or heard off. His secret is simply a well balanced set-up from top to bottom with letting the results show the way, versus heresay and old theories.
93 Corvette - auto
Performance: 1.46 60 ft, 10.648 @ 125.34 (127.94 best mph)
Modifications: 401+ stroked and bored LT-1, Ram Air forced induction, 1300 cfm Monoblade TB, ported LT-1 intake, Thoroughly ported AFR 220 heads, Solid Roller cam in the 245/245 @ .050" area .600+ lift, AFPR, 36lb injectors, Accel 300 ignition, Headers, Tri-flow exhaust with X pipe, self burnt custom eprom, 3.75 gears, PI 3400 rpm Vigalante torque converter, Weld rims, front skinnies, 26" ET Streets.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Phil C --- Corvetteforum member "Wheelsup" lives to his forum name with his 91 Corvette. Wheelsup has taken "Setup optimization" to another level with his stock short block screamer. By paying attention to all of the little details he has successfully taken a motor that roughly makes only 440 hp wayyyy into the 11's. His set-up is based upon a well balanced top end package with selective weight removal and a very agressive torque converter and gear combination. This combination obvously works !!! The stock eliminator guys better start worrying about Wheelsup !! He's still in the dial-in stage with his set-up... expect him to break into the 10's within the next month or two.
91 Corvette - auto
Performance: 1.50 60 ft, 11.11 @ 120.90 (123.7 best mph)
Modifications: Stock short block, Ram Air, 58 mm TB, TPIS mini-ram intake manifold, ported D-port heads, TPIS ZZ9 hyd roller camshaft, headers, MSD, 4.30 gears, TH 350 transmission, ATI 4500 rpm torque converter, Weld rims, skinnies, slicks. Raceweight: 3100 lbs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Dennis Z-- Forummember "Bowtye8" has managed to stowaway the myth of "manuals cannot 60 ft" with his 1.5x 60 fts in his 85 Corvette. Dennis set-up consists of another well balanced, well matched top to bottom set-up coupled with the ability to row the gears. This set-up obviously works, and I would guess of all the racecars in this section, with his ZF 6 speed... its obviously the funnest to drive !!!! He just put this particular combination together and still in the tuning stages... expect him to challenge the 10's with additional tuning and good air.
85 Corvette - ZF 6 speed
Performance: 1.58 60 ft, 11.32 @ 123.2 mph
Modifications: 383 shortblock, Ram air, TPIS Miniram intake, ported AFR 210 heads, Solid Roller cam 244/244 @ .050" area, .600+ lift, Hooker 1 3/4" headers, LT-1 B&B tri-flow exhaust, MSD 6AL, ZF 6 speed transmission, 4.10 gears, self programmed custom chip, converted to 90 F-body ecm, weld rims, front skinnies, 26" MT ET Streets. raceweight: 3400 lbs
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Steven N --- Corvetteforum member "90vette" has really surprised me and I am sure others with his impressive running stock L98 set-up. With the exception of the 52 mm TB and ported plenum, his motor is 100% stock, and yet he is challenging the 12's.... which is unheard off from an L98. Its his goal to run 12's with this set-up before he makes engine modifications, and I think with some good air and perhaps some front skinnies he can do it. I would guess that he only has right around 280 HP... who says you need gobs of HP to run in the 12's.... Stay tuned !!!
90 Corvette - auto
Performance: 1.75 60 ft, 13.17 @ 103.03 mph
Modificatons: Stock Motor, Cold air induction, K&N air filter, Air foil, 52 mm TB, Ported Plenum, AFPR, MSD 6A, Taylor 8.5 mm plug wires, rapid fire spark plugs, No pre-cats, high flow main cat, Magnaflow mufflers, 3.07 gears, PI 2600 rpm Vigalante torque converter. Raceweight: 3400 lbs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Vic G --- Corvetteforum member "Vic89" has recently surprised the forum with new outstanding stock motored L98 performance. With just simple bolt-ons Vic has managed to tickle the 12's with his 13.005 et..... he's one simple modification away from the 12's...front skinnies. His goal is 12.80 with a stock motor before he tears into it.... I think he can do it !!! There's still several weeks left in the racing season for the east coast racers, so stay tuned !!!
89 Corvette - Auto
Performance 1.79 60 ft, 13.005 @ 103.28
Modifications Stock motor, underdrive crank pulley, cutout lid, K&N air filter, Air foil, ported MAF sensor, 12" GM torque converter, Air pump eliminator, TPIS catback exhaust, BFG drag radials, 160 thermostat.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Todd D --- Corvetteforum member "Beach Bum", which is me. I have put together a fairly mild 383 set-up based upon the LPE Superram manifold set-up, while this set-up doesn't make impressive HP #'s, it does provide a well balanced HP/Torque curve that is not only comfortable running 11's at the dragstrip, but also driving across country enjoying 25+ mpg. I have roughly 440 HP, and I try to use every last hp when racing, the result is a best of 11.55 @ 116.99 at a less than svelt 3500 lb raceweight. I've also run 11.56 @ 117.02, 11.57 @ 116.88.... sometime within the future I will be swapping out the Iron dart heads for Aluminum ported AFR 190 heads, coupled with a thoroughly ported Superram intake and improved exhaust system I am hoping for some et slips in the 11.2 area.... knock on wood.
85 Corvette - auto
Performance: 1.552 60 ft, 11.55 @ 116.99 mph
Modifications: 383 shortblock 9.7-1 cr, Cold air box, ported MAF, 58 mm TB, LPE Superram plenum, runners and intake unported, Ported Iron Dart 2 heads, LPE 74219 hyd roller cam, Hooker 1 3/4" headers, 3.45 gears, PI 3000 rpm Vigalante torque converter, Weld rims, Front skinnies, MT 26" ET Streets.
