After s/c, what should I do now???

After running a Vortech s/c on my stock 305 TPI for two years I wanna run n/a.

should I buy a L98 and bolt some good parts on it or should i stay with the 305 and do the same there? I'm looking for about 260-280rwhp. Also I have to keep the TPI-look for vehicle-inspection. the hole thing should still be emission legal.
Because I don't know how much the LB9 suffered from the supercharger I'm leaning towards a new l98.

I was thinking about Sandersons exhaust manifolds (headers are not allowed) and some runners.
What else should I get?

Thanks for the help! :hail:

might i ask why your leaning away from the S/c and going back to NA? emissions mainly? if your looking for the same power it's gonna take a L98 with bolt ons. you could probably get away with full exhaust, intake work, and some other minor mods would get you to the numbers your looking for. also i'm considering the 305 S/C route later down the road, any good tips on it? thanks

edit* wow i should read more lol. i agree with the manifolds if headers aren't allowed, and the rest of the exhaust, runners sound good and some porting of the rest of the intake. i doubt u could get away with a cam or heads.... torque converter, gears etc.. would also help

I like the power the s/c gives me. The problem is only that its not allowed here.
Over the two years that I have it now running, I had no major problems. Only two things: I can't read the rpm's over 2500, thats the point when the needle stands still...
And the gaskets are too weak, the pressure is pushing oil through them, so I have a little lake on my garage place and need to fill in some oil every once in a while!
Also I still have the "old" Vortech-s/c, witch is very loud in my ears.

These are the reasons why I wanna run n/a. I only wanna hear the exhaust rumble and not this whinning noise...

It's always easier to make more power with more cubes.

Sanderson are a "cheat" and not smog certified here where I am at, so do research for your area since you have emissions concerns.

Why not go with a GMPP 350 H.O.? Better numbers than an L98 - even with a TPI intake!

I think its 6 psi of boost.
according to g-tech, I gained ~65rwhp.

they don't sell the 350 H.O. anymore, according to their website.
Is there another one that i could take?

How about the 360TPI motor from sdpc. It makes around 300 wheel horespower and is really fun for the street..so I've read. Lots of torque!

I also mailed sdpc about emission legal crate engines and they recommended this engine, but other guys on this board told me that this engine is not emission legal...

Anyone that knows for sure?

Not Smog Legal

That depends on What your area requires. There are guys on the DIY Prom Board that Have .500in. Lift cams and Power # like 400+ H.P that live in states the do the Sniffer Test and a full visiaul inspection and they pass with flyn colors. Now in Pa. The inspection station here Do a Visual Check for a Catilitic Converter & Muffler. As long as I have those and it dosen't smoke when started I am Fine. Now if it smokes the put a Sensor in the tailPipe that measures emmisions.

Find out what you are required to have:

As long as you are running a legal exhaust with all the smog goodies and put your tpi on it I don't see why it would not be Legal if it can pass a sniffer.

Just my opinion

Since the engine seems to appear like stock. the visual inspection should be no problem.
I'm just concerned about the sniffer test. If the engine passes sniffer in CA i'm sure it would pass here also.

If the noise is really an issue, you can contact Vortech and ask about their trade in program. I too have the old style super loud Vortech S-Trim and at one time I thought about switching to a SQ unit. Vortech said they would give me $750 credit for my current unit, so the cost of the swap wasnt that bad. But I can live with the sound (who am I kidding, I love it) so I'm keeping my blower.
