Chip Question - Please Help!

I tried posting this in the DIY Prom forum, but couldn't get anyone to respond...

Other than the mods in my signature, my 350 TPI is pretty stock. However, someone in another board mentioned to me that I need to have a chip to compensate for the 24# injectors I am using. My question is simply, where do I get one?

I asked (in the other forum) if a Hypertech or Jet chip would be better than my stock chip with the 24# injectors. The response I got was "no".

I'm not into burning my own, so what other options do I have?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

You have a few choices..

Find one of the many "custom chip" tuners like Ed Wright, Street and Performance, etc., to change the injector constant in your stock chip, or buy the equipment yourself and do it.

I don't think you'll find a commercially available chip with only the injector constant changed.

But will changing the injector constant provide me with a noticable performance difference than just buying a Hypertech or Jet Performance Chip (or leaving the stock chip for that matter)?

Thank you.

The car will run right with the injector constant corrected. Performance increase, yes, seeing as how the car won't be running pig rich.

A few years ago, my injectors went out. I saw an add for Accel injectors in Summit, so I called them and asked them if they were stock replacements. They said 'Yes' and now I have 24# injectors. Apparently there are different interpretations of "stock". But, they have been working well... I'm just trying to make sure my car is running 100%.

well in all honesty i think it would be wiser to go with correct injectors unless your plan is to do some more modifications in the future. chip burning is a science and only 1% of the people who sell chips seem to have any idea of what they are doing.

rather then get into the tunning mess i'd sell the injectors and pick up the right ones for the engine. alot less hassle in the long run, good luck with it.

Why buy a new chip?

Get a scanner and see how "badly" your car really is running. A scanner is an awesome tool to have. Get all your friends together and buy one. Or buy one your self and have them borrow it all the time don't ask me how I know. An obd1 GM scanner shouldl work for any gm car up to 94.

The injector constant is the first thing thats fudged when you start burning chips. For all intents and purposes, its used just to globally richen or lean out the car to get the BLM's closer. With an AFPR you can do the same thing, only some of them will run higher fuel pressure than stock, even backed out all the way.

What I'm trying to say here is before you buy a custom chip you may be better off scanning the car and seeing if its worth your money. If you do need a chip burned it may be worth to buy the equipment, rather than buying a $300 custom chip.

I have any AutoXray, it won't connect 2 out of 5 times to my car but it will eventually, just keep turning it on and checking, then turning if off and try again. As far as I know it just don't like MAF TPI cars, another guy i know had the same problem. Their ~$150 new. If you have a laptop. WINALDL will work for your MAF car and would be the way to go. If if you suck at soldering you could probably still make it. Its only 3 or 4 resistors, a serial connector, and a transistor. I've seen people sell them for like $40 in the classifieds here too.

Moates just came out with a usb burner for under $100, get that with a chip adapter, a ZIF, and a few chips and your burning your own chips for $200+/- assuming you have a laptop, ~$300 if you don't.
