3 conflicting things here. Your user name suggests cross-fire injection, which basically a modified TBI. Your post suggest a carb setup. You posted in the TPI section.

Which do you have?

ah ok. That's what I figured. Crossfire is closer to TBI than TPI. The tech / general engine would have been fine as well.

In any case, for the smoking, steam means water. Water generally means coolant when it comes to steam getting let off. But, burning coolant has a defenite smell. Does it only smoke when you rev it? And is it coming out of just 1 of the throttle bodies or both?

comes out of both, and it doesn't smell burnt, and it doesn't really smell like fire smoke. it's a white-ish smoke that seaps out. like how steam rises off a boiling pot, in that wavy motion. i'm guessing it's just steam, but i would like to know forsure. and it only happens when i rev it, but once the engine warms up and i rev it, it stops.

What I was getting at is, does it smell like coolant? Burnt usually makes black or gray smoke. Water makes white smoke. Coolant makes whitish smoke as well.

Sounds like gaskets to me, is your fuild in the radiator low? Does it need filled every now and again? If so, you might have a small leak which fixes itself after the motor heats, causes the metal to expand and seal, MAYBE???

my only two guesses would be bad intake manifold gaskets that could be sucking water from the crossover passages. or it is simply fuel vapor. i know some older cross ram type intakes had a fair amount of reversion under various operating conditions, and since this engine only does this when it is cold, it could just be unburned fuel reverting back into the intake. this reversion is also common on engines with aggressive cams that have lots of overlap.

how bout this, when i start my car, a HUGE amount blue/blackish smoke comes out of my exhaust, but it's only one puff. i know that smoke period is bad, but since it doesn't continue it's fine for now right?

Bluish tint= valve seals (very common problem, easy fix)
blackish tint=running rich at startup, burning waaay too much fuel.

Depending on the steam and if in fact it is coolant related, it may or may not be related to the smoke coming out the exhaust. If you smell the smoke coming out of the exhaust, you can distinctly tell both fuel and oil.

Quick valve seal test: If you let the car sit overnight, it puffs. If you shut it down and start it back up right away, does it still puff the black-blue smoke? Valve seals more than likely won't puff the second time around, at least, not as major as the first.

Also, regarding the steam: does it actually steam WHILE you rev it? if so, I doubt it's below the TBI line because while you rev it, the manifold vacuum would probably draw the steam into the combustion chambers. I'll bet its just fuel vapors that you see,

ok, the exhaust only does it when i start it up once, maybe a tiny bit the second time, and it's a blue-ish color. and water pours out of it like mad, especially if i rev it up. then it just flies out of there.

and the steam issue. it doesn't steam while i rev it, but once i stop, it'll start and go for a little bit, then stop itself. i think it's just steam, almost positive.

and for fixing the valve seal, where, who, what, when, why, and how do i do that? (haha)

Think you'd be best off taking it to a mechanic for the valve seals. :lala:
