carb vs. efi
Yeah efi is superior until your damn car wont run because of computer problems and or electrical problems,my 89 gta makes a good lawn ornament right now because of an elctrical problem hindering the tpi system.

So, Dan, what you're saying is that an electrical problem can't shut down a carbed car? Tell that to my '91....she was down for 2 weeks with a bad igniton module (and then a bad replacement....straight out of the box.)
Try asking questions. It'll get you farther than just complaining.
And if you hate your TPI setup so much, I'll give you $5 for it. I'll even take it off the car for you.

Im not trying to make enemies here just venting frustration i guess. At this point carb has always been more reliable for me than efi, and its not a lack of understanding i do ask plenty of questions, but with my tpi setup ive had some serios headaches lately its left me stranded 3 times in the last 2 months. So i appoligize if i offended anyone with my woes and opinions but its not that im being ignorant, ive just had some bad expieriences with my tpi.

And i guess while i may have a couple of your ears you can suggest your solution to my problem. The car will crank but is getting no spark or injector pulse the fuel pump is engaging and it has adequite pressure at the rail i have swapped the computer and ignition coil. the coil has power coming into it but produces no spark to the cap the resistance on the new and old coil also check out . all fuses are good all wires connected properly, the car has a new computer ignition coil plugs wires cap and new injectors it ran fine the other day i shut it off and since it will not start any suggestions??

Did you check all ignition wires for loose connections, I had a wire connector go bad between my ignition box 6AL and distributer. Same effect. Also, there is another thread regarding no start, might read it, maybe it will give you some new ideas, those guys are after the starter etc.

Engine cranking.....no spark, and no injector pulse. Sounds an awful lot like the computer isn't getting an RPM signal, which indicates a bad ignition module. Have you checked it yet? Try this: take a regular old test light and hook the clip to +12v, then unhook the coil and probe the small white wire going into it from the distributor. It should flash with the engine cranking. If not you have a dead module.
Is it this same problem that's left you stranded 3 times or other problems that have already been fixed?

Don't hate your TPI, With the tools available for use with a laptop, the TPI can tell you what IS working and easily help narrow down what the problem could be. Watching the throttle position, map, mat, O2, DRP event timing, battery voltage, injector pulse width... etc,
That's why I love TPI.
But nowadays, there are better tools to help. The frusrtating part is learning to use them.
I'm betting its the module, definatly check that and see.

Its been other problems that have been corrected that left me stranded before. I actually broke down and towed it to a shop last night due to the fact i havent been feeling well they told me i need a new distributer, cap and roter, i think it may just be the ignition module and they would rather not just change that out.

Dan
Sounds like you need to go get your car and fix it yourself, wow, nothing like a whole sale change out of the ignition system. But before I call them Rip-off artist, is all your ignition stuff stock, how many miles?? They might me telling you it is time to replace all that due to ware and tare. Surely it is only one component failing.
But if it is orginal stock components you might want to bite the bullit and get it all replaced so you don't break down again. If you end up replacing the complete ignition maybe take a look at MSD or Accel are something simular, distributor, cap, rotor, coil, ignition box, 8.5mm wires. I feel you will be happier with the performance of the aftermarket stuff. Hope you get the situation solved soon and within your budget.

Yes i believe its all stock besides the plugs and wires which i replaced a little while back. The car has 77,000 on it and actually the owner of the shop i took it to was the original owner of the car. but the estimate for the parts work and diagnostic is 399.00 !! wit the diagnostic being 64.00 so yeah im gonna tow it to a friends and find a cheaper solution.
