What motor is in that car? Is it a carbed LG4, a throttle-body injected L03, or a tuned port injected LB9?

If it is the L03, then the heads will make a big difference.

If it is a LG4, then the heads will make a big difference.

If it is a LB9, then the heads will not make a big difference at all. Well, the 2.02 valves are nice and if ported well, the heads will make a nice improvement. Just don't expect a gain by taking heads off an L69 and dropping them straight on to an LB9. The 416 casting (L69 and early LB9) are nearly identical to the 081 casting (later LB9, like my '88).

As for a cam... I was going to use a 222/232@.050", .479int/.501exh lift and a 114LSA on my 305tpi with ported stock 081 castings and an LT1 intake with some headers.

Actually by the time I picked that cam, I already decided on the new setup I have planned, which is ported LT1 aluminum heads, LT1 intake, 24# injectors, SD(MAP) conversion. Though now I'm looking at just buying a 350 block and going from there. I just need to find a ROLLER 350 block so I can use the cam I bought..

Well it is TPI that is why i put it in this form, as for injectors i forgot to say that i have 24 lbs injectors. For a block, where do you live b/c my freind has a roller block 350 that he is trying to get rid of.

So you are sugguesting that i get a cam with 222/232 dur and .479/.501 lift that will fit with my step-up correct

Is this a 305 that you are putting it on? You won't get 2.02/1.6 valves to fit if so. Stick with just 1.94/1.5. If its on a 305, stick with 1.94/1.6 valves. Unless you port the hell out of them, and I mean REALLY port the hell out of them, you will actually lose power by switching to 2.02 valves on the intake (hurts velocity).

There is no such thing as a "high output" casting. You will still end up with an "081" more than likely.

If you get a factory roller block, cam selection will all come down to tuning. If you can tune, I would suggest something like the Xr269HR or the LT4 HOT cam. If you are NOT going to tune, the X4264HR is about all I would run.

305 HO heads would be the 416 heads off an L69...however, these are identical to the 081 castings on our TPI motors. These heads can flow very well with some porting. Even the higher output 305TPI blocks had identical heads. The cam was slightly different in these motors (L98 cam instead of peanut cam), and that's where the extra power came from in the 5spd LB9 cars.

The block sounds good as long as it is a roller block. Let me know.

I would NOT recommend the cam I'm going with for a TPI setup. It has too much duration and too high of an operating range for a TPI setup. Designed for a more free-flowing, higher-revving intake, like a Miniram or LT1 intake. I'll be going with a 3000-3200 stalled converter and 3.42 or 3.73 gears as well eventually, though I think I'm going to see how far my 2.73s will take me for a while.
