wana swap a cam in for the worn out 1 , should i go wit another flat taped or get retro fit rollers , and cam size, good enought to keep stock chip,(keep in mind 85 came with the 87 350 cam stock)so it should be a good upgrade, i have a fp regulator already and other mods in sig. thankx

The stock 305 cam is already a pretty good cam. I don't think that you're going to find tremendous benefit from going much larger, and I really doubt you'll get a return on your investment by switching to a roller cam. That's an expensive swap, and you're not approaching power levels that would begin to favor a roller setup.

Summit sells a cam for the 85-86 TPI cars that I think is somewhat more agressive than the stock 85 cam. It may be worth a few horsepower.

His cam is only as good as an L98 cam. I've never heard someone say that the stock cam is "good enough" when they are considering upgrading it.

The summit cams may not be a bad choice because they have fairly low lift and should work on the stock heads. I'd recommend upgrading springs and going with a cam that has durations of like 210/216..

We're talking about a 305 here. The L98 cam is a pretty good cam for a stock 305. I'm not saying there aren't gains to be had by using a bigger one, but I don't think they will be all that great. I also see the potential to very quickly over-cam that motor. It's a stock 305. Any cam that would make a good upgrade in a stock L98 would likely be too much cam for this motor. You just need to be careful that you don't wind up with too much cam.

I am going though the same thing you are right now... my post is here https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=263507 . I am just about sold on the comp XTREME energy 256H. This cam with 1.6 rockers will increase lift considerably over stock. Just take into acount that your heads wont be able to handle this extra lift in stock form.

I did find a good chunk of power with my cam swap. I went with a Crane Compucam as my choice. I am very happy with it. I have the same car and computer as you and this is as big as they recommened I should go. Its a .440/.454 lift cam better mid range, whice is what I was looking for.

for all the naysayers that squawk about overcamming a 305..... yes you can over cam any motor, but see my sig. the 1/4 mile times with the stock chip and single 2.75" exhaust speak for themselves. granted I have much better heads than stock, but this cam worked well with my stock heads too, the cam i am running just needs a bit of a higher stall converter than stock.

Hmmm that gives me hope for my car. I have a 222/232 cam sitting here that I wanted to put in my 305. Its going to have LT1 heads flowing 260int/180exh, LT1 intake, headers, full intake/exhaust (K&N CAI, hi flow cat, cat-back). Think I'll be able to pull it off? I plan on using a 3200 stalled torque converter..
