SDPC Vortec manifold swap
Hey guys I did the manifold swap from for SDPC vortec heads. I am getting ready to install my primary coil and egr solenoid, But when i installed the SDPC manifold i also installed an EGR tube that comes with it and the tube is in the way of the coil bracket. Anyone here perform the same swap and have this problem? If so what did you do to correct it? Should i try and install the bracket on the d/s front or mount the coil to the firewall? Thanks,

Hi I did the sdpc intake swap but my car has HEI distributer with internal coil. The only thing I moved was the map sensor to the firewall. Try put it on the firewall it worked for me.

You can mount the coil anywhere. Just fab up a new bracket for it to mount on the firewall, or some other convenient location.

i have a 90 Iroc tpi and i put the coil on the firewall.. the tube from the egr kit i did not use.. i just cut a piece of metal to cap that port from the intake base. I was told it was not needed for my application

I have the coil mounted to the firewall with a long coil wire maybe 7" further away than before, works fine just make sure the mounting is solid. And I run the full EGR set up. makes it kinda a pain to install. I assembled my entire motor on a stand with headers installed (less distributor) and dropped it in the car.Putting that tube on the with the exhuast on in the car would suck, wasn't even that easy to do on a stand, everything bolted up ok, but there is alot of opportunity for leaks, just need to be very aware of what you are doing. My Egr valve had to be ground slightly to fit flat on the base. Need to make sure that SDPC Egr tube is welded at the correct angle. overall not hard. just as I said kinda a pain in the butt. For some reason this intake has alot of holes to fill, oh yeah and the fitting for the oil sending unit was a pain too. Car runs well though, ton's of torque, way more hp than stock, but still a TPI with no top end HP, but the great mid range almost make up for it.
Oh yeah, and the egr tube interfered with my AC housing at the fire wall , so the AC! mod was done.

Coil Location
I have the separate coil and the SDPC 350 V TPI. I put the coil on an "L" bracket I made and mounted to the firewall. I needed to remove the wiper blade screen to access the nuts on the far side of the wall. The coil is in almost the same place, just mounted to the firewall. Also, by the time I put all the other go fast goodies on, the EGR tube assy wasn't even needed. I went through all the trouble to have their tube welded to my header, then the chip programmer just bypassed that input anyway...so all for naught. I don't know why they push the EGR kit, don't need it.

I made a bracket off the runner bolt on the top pass side and mounted the coil there. there didn't want it there but theres so much crap over on that side to mount it anywhere else and I don;'t wanna drill into the firewall. I suppose i'll find a better spot over the winter for it

abcx09t,
I think the idea of the egr was to get it to pass the emitions testing. I know it can't pass the visual test. but I think it would help, thats why I have it plumbed in, if it even gets me .5 mi more to the gallon , or will pass ca emissions it's good to me. I know this alone doesn't make it exempt. Just hope I pass, at least all the emissions on my car is functioning. you don't have may choices in CA.
