Car dies at high temp

Sometimes when my motor's temp is pushing the redline in city traffic and I'm stopped at a light the engine will fizzle and die. it will always start right up again, though. I'm running with a code 32 right now (too broke to buy a new EGR valve and intake gaskets). I think my EGR valve is blowing too much air into the intake and that's causing my stall. Any ideas? thanks.

dude, you should have stopped on the side of the road when it got close to redline, you might have a cracked head or block now if you didnt before. It might have overheated in the first place for alot of reasons. Check the thermostat, and see if the fan is coming on.

BigBiscuit -- high-tempurature related stalling is often associated with a marginal ignition module. My 87 5.7 exhibited this problem prior to upgrading the distributor to an MSD and lowering the operating temp of the cooling system to about 180-degrees instead of the stock 190-230-degrees. New Edelbrock water pump, stock replacement radiator, bringing the fans online at 160 and a 160 thermo tamed the overheating beast to where it sits in hot Hawaii traffic all day with the AC on and never goes over 190.

Guys, thanks for the info. BTW 1989Iroc-Z-350, if I did have a cracked head or block, I'd feel the difference in a decline in engine power, wouldn't I? Aside from tearing off the heads, how can I tell if I have cracks (ie, leaks, steam, lower compression, etc). I've also got an iffy cluster, which may be giving me funny readings. The car runs fine with decent power, except for this stalling problem.
