Modifed TPI throwing codes 32, 36, and 42....

Alright guys, lets see if you can help me figure out why its throwing these codes. Not that I didn't expect to have issues with as far from stock as my setup is.

But its sad, I lost to an out of tune 97 Z28 m6 when I should have walked him even with my stock prom.

32. Fault in barometric pressure sensor circuit OR
Fault in exhaust gas recirculation valve diagnostic switch OR
Fault in electronic vacuum regulator valve

36. Burn off at mass air flow sensor OR
Problem in transmission shift OR Fault in direct ignition system OR
Missing pulses in electronic spark timing signal

42. Fault at electronic spark timing circuit OR
Fault at direct ignition system OR
Fault at fuel cutoff relay circuit

The Maf is brand new. So is the EGR valve. The solenoid could be bad, I guess I'll have to check that. The wireing to the coil is old and stiff, might have to replace that if its corroded. The brown wire for the EST looks good all the way through, no breaks or crimped parts.

She has new plugs, wires, cap/rotor, o2, MAF, EGR, no emissions, no cat. I'm kinda stumped, and really need to data log this thing and see what its doing.

The combo is in the signature.

Your codes ae as follows:

Code 32 = Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) circuit.

Code 36 = Mass Air Flow (MAF) Burn-off circuit.

Code 42 = Electronic Spark Timing (EST) circuit.

Have you looked at the MAF burn-off relay? Have you checked your timing lately where you would have had the timing wire disconnected?

I suspect the wiring to the MAF burn off relay is a little shot. It didn't look to good at first glance. Thankfully I have my "BucketO'Harness" (tm) to pull connectors from. Some guy converted to carb and cut the living hell out of his harness cause he didn't need it anymore. So I got it for free. Relays, connectors, just about everything there is.

When I set the timing intially I had the EST disconnected before starting the car, set timing, shut the car off, and then reconnected the wire. I set it to 8* base timing, though it seems like it wants more timing right now.

The 42 is from when you set the timing. The 36 is either real, or you had a low battery and triggered it when you started the car. Seen that before.
32, is the EGR solenoid hooked up? Thats what usually sets that one, but its rare that it ever sets a code in my experience. Only time I ever got that code was when the solenoid died... it didnt care if it was disconnected

Had a chance to drive the car more today. Yesterday it was surging, and searching for idle all over the place. At very light throttle and low speeds it was pretty bad, seems like it wanted to stall. It actually stalled twice yesterday when I put it in reverse to park.

Today though its a different car. Idles much better, it now only searches for idle by about 100rpm. Noticible, but no biggie.

I need to datalog this thing.

As far as I know its the stock chip for a 89 5.7L TPI. I know it needs a tune, but I'd rather tune it myself. But the first step is data logging.

Thats not much cam, but maybe you need to adjust the lower MAF tables a little. It wont take much. Thats if the car is tuned up and the TPS is set right and all that junk.

He forgot to mention that the Z28 he lost too is missing second gear

Get your 12 volt source right, and we can data log this weekend. Maybe we can convince a certain someone to give us a hand on sunday with some tuning? I will pm him.
