cam duration vs vacuem
Hi I am doing a 327 tpi sbc swap. Would like to run a .500 lift cam with the duration around 260-270. I undestand the tpi likes to see 14-16 inches off vacuem. My question is if I run a vacuem pump, can I get away with this? I am using port and polished large valve camel hump 461 heads, the block is bored 4.060 and I am using keith black hypertech pop-up pistions with a .100 dome height 2 reliefs. Looking to get around 400 hp and 400 torque, will this work? maybe a comp cams 12-250-3?

Hate to rag on you, but those heads, well, they are not worth the cost to hot tank them. They are old and almost worthless, 30 year old technology. Get some decent heads. The cam should work fine.

I have the LT4 hot cam in my 355 and it idles like a stock car. It is all in the tuning. I have the car idling at about 36 Kpa MAP when fully warmed up. I pull great vacuum. Get into chip buring and you should be able to buy any cam you want.
