I have (had) a 1987 IROCZ L98 and deleted the cold start injector. It is not actually required, but it helps alot if you do not use it that you get a new chip burned with that in mind. Afterall, the '89s do not have cold start injectors.

im a little confused here i dont know all that much about the cold start circuit. i always thought that it acted as a choke for starting right away when the motor is cold. ????? i have a stock chip no money for a custom one now so i dont need the injector huh? why is it there then?

The cold start injector is a fuel injector, its main purpose is to add fuel during cranking (apparently for a rich start) when the engine is cold.

You dont need it if you take care of the extra fuel needed on a cold start by increasing the cranking PW vs coolant temp table.

As I said before, the MAFed '89 cars do not have a cold start injector.

The way I undestand it.. The cold start injector does add extra fuel during a cold start, but it does it alone. In the '89 MAF c ars, the computer tells ALL 8 injectors to add fuel at cold start. That is how the '89's get away without cold start.

To the point of you not needing the cold start. That is somewhat true, however, you would need to replace your chip with one that has '89 code on it. In other words, you would need to turn your car's computer into that of the computer from a 1989 car. Just replacing the chip, or reprogramming the chip will do that.

If you sent it out with the rest of the injectors for cleaning, then the only other item is the cold-start temp-switch (it uses the same connector as the fuel injectors) located to right of the coolant temp sensor on the front of the intake right above the timing chain cover.

To test with the engine cold; remove cold start injector from runner (do not disconnect from fuel rail) let it sit in a large jar and crank the engine you should see the injector spraying fuel into the jar.
