Whats with all the Walbro hype?

I am a frustrating owner of a Walbro pump.
I installed a new 255 l/hr one in Sept. the car has probably seen 200 miles since then and it has been stored through the winter. I periodically start the car. I just started prom tuning with my wideband yesterday and I was watching the AFR go lean, the pump started making a loud noise, and now the fuel press. is only at about 20psi. This pump is brand new!!! Is this common with these pumps? I have only heard good things about these pumps here but now I am thinking they are just junk!!! I think I am going back to the Delco pump.

How long did the Walbro pump last? How long did the original Rochester pump last? Need any more ideas?

One thing that you probably won't find in any manual is to pour a quart of two-cycle oil in a full tank of fuel (or in whatever proportion you might determine based on your fuel level). This can help lubricate the pump and seal discharge checks. Unfortunately, it can also affect the EGO and slightly skew the O² readings, which may not be a good thing while you are trying to tune.

Maybe you just got a bad one it happens! Mine has worked great for years and many miles. Sorry to hear, sucks just starting to get into the tune and all.

Something might have gone wrong with the install as well. If you pull it you might find something simple to fix.

Well, heres what I can go on.

91 Formula, Walbo-ized after the 2nd delco pump failed at 100k still going 20k later.

91 GTA some idiot almost ran it dry on the way home :-) Walbro now has 30k + on it

89 TTA done 4 -5 yrs ago and 5k ish miles (doesnt go out alot) and it still keeps up with 15psi .

87 turbo regal, long time ago and lord knows how many miles and still going strong.

I have about 10 more people who are problem free and many miles on their walbro's as well.

It's almost the exclusive pump in the TR, TTA, and Sy/Ty worlds as none of the factory pumps are heavy duty enough to deal woth the loads when u start serioulsy modifying things.

Side note, no one here reuses the damned pulsator do they? Just use the straight line and live with barely more audible noise. they tend to leak and/or not seal to the lines and cause issues as well.

later

DO NOT BUY THE GRANATELLI PUMP

Let me share some of my frustration with all of you.
I bought the pump at Summit on 10/30/04, I put the car up a few days later. The car was ran for about 15 min every other week throught out the winter. I contacted Summit and explained my dilema, they said that thier warranty covers the pump for 90 days and that had ran out and that I should contact Granatelli directly. I called them yesterday and found out none of there fuel pumps come with any warranty what so ever. I basically have a new paper weight!!!

I will never buy anything from Granatelli and I urge all of you to do the same.
This company is a joke!

I wrote them a rather colorful email and am awaiting a response. I will keep you posted.

I tossed the pulsator and used the line. It looked like a problem down the road for sure. The pump was just as quite without it.

I feel for ya jonarotz...I just had the same thing happen to me with a tranny. Two weeks after the warranty expires, the 3/4s are starting to slip. **** happens!

I'm not sure what pump TPIS sells, but I have no problems with it in my IROC, or the Walbro that I installled in my Lancer Evolution.

Well I just put in the GMS pump about 4 days ago, we'll see how it acts up. So far so good. 300 miles about right now so we'll see.
