HSR only 13's?
HSR only 13's?
I was on the HSR website and it seems that people with hsr, heads, and cam are hitting 13's a lot of the time. This seems a little slow being that its supposed to be such a good intake. Is there a reason for this? Im looking to get in the 12's and im starting to think carbed is the way to go.

13's isn't fast?!
Your not gonna be able to put a carb/HSR/xxxxx intake on and get much faster if you keep the Stock Heads/Cam. Most of the ppl just swap intakes and expect xxx amount of horsepower and it's just not gonna happen.
The L98 heads/cam are design around the TPI system. If you goto a HSR to take advantage of the better intake you need a bigger cam and better flowing heads. Also, TUNING comes with that. Several ppl with heads/cam are not gonna see good times if they only bump the Fuel Pressure up.
You'll be happy w/ the HSR. But plan on doing other mods besides that as well. If not, you'd be better of staying w/ the TPI.

I think the LS1 has really raised the bar, and people forget just what it takes to go fast. 13's are pretty darn quick.
...as for the HSR, it's an awesome intake. I love carbs, but my friend, it's old technology. If ya know how to make EFI run, it'll beat you everytime. (apples to apples of course)
...and what's to say those set-ups you saw were done right? Maybe the components weren't matched right. There's a thread on here right now about a guy running low 13s on a bone stock L98.
You won't be sorry if you go with a HSR.

Yea, it is the same thing with all cars...you can't just throw $$ and parts at the car and it instantly be fast...the right combo and having it run right are a huge part of the equation. A properly running and modded stock car can beat a car with more mods if they are not done right.

Wow, you've went from one end of the spectrum to the other. w/ that setup I imagine with the correct gears/stall and a Tranny that can handle it, add some sticky tires and you'd be in low 12's high 11's.

let's say you do get those AFR heads n' the HSR... the times you run will still depend on exactly which cam you choose. Chassis/suspension set-up, tires, trans/stall/gears will all come into play for determining your times n' speed. So really, it's hard to predict "What will i run if i have blah blah blah." To give you an idea, my car has run a best of 12.61 @ 101.6 mph with a 383, HSR, trickflow heads, and a very mild cam @ 214/220, .452"/.465" on a 110 LSA. 2400 stall converter in a 700R4 w/3.42 rear and 10" slicks. The chassis is pretty well set-up though. I think the car can go faster with the current set-up, but since then a 3000 stall converter has been installed, and a much more agressive cam is being ground down right now by ISKY w/ 226/234, .505"/.530" on 112 LSA. These two changes i hope will bring the car down to the 12.1x or 12.0x range.

There is a guy on the Stealthram forum with a 383, AFR heads, hot cam, and the HSR system running 11.73 in the quarter on a 2800 stall i do believe with 3.73s.

You can throw as many parts on the engine you want but if you dont tune your ecm to the new parts its not gonna run as it should. Most of the magazine articles have noted that. Just had to throw that in.
