Tool for cleaning/polishing inside the runners?

Any one seen a good tool for cleaning inside the runners? Like a steel wired pipe cleaner in a 1 1/2 inch diameter? Maybe something to attatch to a drill would be nice?

U could try a dingle berry hone. Haven't used one myself for that but could try and it might work.

I used a parts washer, brake clean would work as well, and an engine cleaning brush outta the kit. Had plastic bristles and worked well

That's exactly what a "Dingle Berry Hone" is. I think it is better known as a flexible hone or a flexible brake cylinder hone. I used a 1 5/8" or was it a 1 3/4" flexible hone when I ported my lower intake. They work well. I got mine from the local tool guy.

Bout $15.00. I kept the packaging just in case I ever needed to re-order another. I could look for it when I get home and maybe get you a manufacturer.

Did a little search on Ebay for you. Here's what you are looking for, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33613

There are many different grits and sizes available. The overall length is only 8", so you may have trouble reaching the entire length of the runner.

I would personally use a bottle brush and brake cleaner for cleaning the inside of the runners though.

You could also use a Ball Hone the will sell them at most machine shop suppliers (Usually wholesale only but tell them you work for your local parts store and you need a (insert size here) Ball hone They are pretty cool I used one on my SLP Runners They don't remove much material but in a drill with water, solvent, or parts spray they will clean them up really nice

I used a 2" ball hone Cramed it in the runner and spun up the drill after working it around a bit I didn't have to force so hard to get it in.

Guys, I'm wondering... I just got a set of Brand new SLP runners and these runners don't have the same extruded finish inside of them like the stock runners do, but instead have a cast finish like the outside of the runners themselves. Do you guys think this flex hone can smooth out the insides of the SLP runners? Thanks.

Hey, I know exactly what you are talking about mine looked like that to. All SLP runners come out of the box like that.. I have posted some pics of a ball hone and of my runners.

The bottom runners I only ran the ball hone thru a couple times. The upper set I fully ported and am working on polishing. Check out the Thread "SLP Runners" in this forum you can see the pics

Thanks a lot. The pics sure did help. And awesome job on the runners. How far in did you siamese? I'm planning on siamesing the top part about 2 inches in. I just got myself a set of 6 inch carbide burrs to do this. Also, does the shaft on that ball hone flex? I'd like to smooth out the entire length of the runner, so I'll need that sucker to curve.

Your Welcome, I did not actually siamise in that much farther my goal was to open up the begining..I will tell you though the center section is razor thin. to allow the air to flow thru with as little resistance as possible.

I used a 6" double cut carbide bit and a 3"
sandpaper rolls with a 3" mandrel
My ball hone (and by the way the shaft on those are stif as hell) No Flex But you would be suprised just how far you can get in there with it (especially on the outside curve of the runner...)
The inside curve without the flex you won't be able to get that very well and some spots not at all.

Why do the inside of the runners and plenum get so sooty anyway? I just ran mine through the dishwasher and it's still full of sticky black goo!

I believe it's from the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) but not totally sure

Yeah, it's from the EGR. To get it out, spray it down with carb cleaner. Worked wonders on my TPI.
