pics for 89' tpi coolant hose?
Hey guys,
Im almost done with my 305 carb to 350 vortec tpi swap and wanted to see if anyone had pics of their water pump or hoses that go from the water pump to Heater core. Im not sure how the heater hose routing went on an 89 tpi. On my old engine the hose went from the water pump to the heater core and then from the heater core to the block. I put the nipple on to the water pump and im not sure if i have enough clearance from the nipple to the fuel lines for the heater hose to be installed. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Mine has a 180 degree bend hose from the intake to the throttle body. A short straight hose from the TB to the side inlet on the heat valve. The top outlet from this valve goes down to the metal pipe along the frame rail. The bottom outlet goes to the heater core. The other connection at the heater core goes to the metal pipe and back to the side tank on the radiator. Complicated set up but you could make it work much simpler I'd think.

No hose from the water pump except the big hose to radiator. Look on front of intake, should see the temp sensor with another fitting just above it, that's the heater hose to throttle body and through this to the heat control valve. Couple pictures if the forum is willing.

No, the valve has a bypass deal. One of the ports goes to the heater core, the other port bypassed into a tee connection in the other hose back to the radiator. I'll look around for a diagram of how it all works up and scan it if I can find one.

does your car have A/C? That heater valve is run off the HVAC control with a vacuum line. If you don't have that already then installing it serves no point. I got rid of it on my 88 TPI car because I deletrd the A/C . All it does is shut off the coolant flow to the heater core when the A/C is on, so there is no heat source inside the car.
On mine I just went to the parts store and got a 3/8" heater hose with a 90* bend, and 3' long.
I did the TB bypass as well and just ran it from the port on the intake in the front to the heater core on the firewall. Makes for a cleaner ( less clutter ) install in my opinion. You could use the TB still and run it from the port on the TB instead if you wanted.

That picture shows an L98 with the coolant-based engine oil cooler... The outlet from the heater core goes to the pipe that runs along the passenger side then you have the hose going to the pipe leading to the engine oil cooler, and then from there you have the outlet from the cooler running back to the port on the radiator..

I'm in the process of removing the A/C for a while. I deleted all the hoses period. Still looks cluttered, also a couple of TB pics.
Engine Bay

TB - Coolant delete fabricated cover and IAC housing.

TB bottom view - assembled.

TB front view - air foil installed then bored to 52mm.

like thirdgen88 said mine has the engine oil cooler hook up.
but basically you just run the hose from the metal tube on the frame rail up to the radiator and skip over where it goes to the oil cooler.
Nothing needs to go to the throttle body at all.
If you want to run it to the throttle body, then look at the first pics that were posted, you can see it goes from the intake to the throttle body, and then the hose would go to the heater from the side of the throttle body.

Well it might be hard to get away with just heater hose for the one the goes to the radiator and heater core. tight fit back there. There should be a short formed hose that connects to the metal pipe tha runs on the frame rail, then hos from there to the radiator.
You can order the pipe from any GM parts counter, or online.. I got mine from gmpartsdirect.com.
I'll get the part number for you.. it's pretty cheap if i remember right.
