Intake relocation?
I put a cone filter in my car and now its just sucking in hot air. I was wondering if anyone has had an experience relocating the filter. My idea was to take out that bracket the stock air box was attached to then cut a hole right there and put the cone filter behind the passenger side fog light. It seems to be divided away from the engine compartment so the air should be cooler. Any ideas on this?

That's what I did with my CAI Josh. Don't know if it is good for any real power but definately grabbing cooler air and it is out of the way.

Awesome, should be a fun weekend project, I'll post pics when I'm done. Were there any problems you encountered? Enough room for the filter and everything?

Firebirdjosh this is just something to think about, it might not be the best idea but its worth a shot. From the way it looks, that is basically the same intake as the one on my 88 v6 parts car which IMO would be VERY restrictive. But, I havent pulled it apart so I dont know. Now my idea is to take the stock intake from my 89 formula and put a cone filter on that instead of the cylinder filter and air box. It seems to me that would give better air flow. But then again I could be wrong, it wouldnt be the first or last time, but thats just something to think about

Ok here are some pics vernw... Don't laugh! I normally pride myself on keeping things pretty clean but i had a mad dash to finish getting things ready before our annual dyno gathering last weekend and haven't cleaned up yet.
I will probably replace the parts pre-maf with welded/smoothed tubing and put a plate over the hole that I cut.
I didn't invest in a new cone K&N but am using a modified factory filter housing (the sides are almost completely cut away) with a K&N filter. The location works out good because it is protected in front by the air dam and sits in front of the front wheel well cover so no water gets up in there. It just so happened that the filter housing fit nice and snug in between the sheet metal and lower brace.
(be patient on the pics... looks like comcast is having issues globally tonight with their storage)
